American Idol’s Chayce Beckham Debuts Nostalgic New Song

Chayce Beckham

Singer-songwriter Chayce Beckham is the reigning American Idol winner, and as the landmark 20th season of the show kicks off on Sunday, the singer-songwriter from Apple Valley California performed a new song in an Instagram video.

The song is called (probably?) “If I Had a Week with Nothing to Do.”

“Wrote this one for my friends and family back home in California and Oklahoma. Miss you guys,” he wrote alongside the clip. Currently, Chayce is building a music career in Nashville, Tennessee.

“This is a song I wrote, maybe a couple of weeks ago, with a good friend of mine, Scooter,” Chayce says as he introduces the song, “Hope y’all like it.”

The lyrics of the plaintive tune are dripping with nostalgia. It feels as if written during a bout of homesickness.

“Parked my Chevy in the Western plain/Knocked on a few doors back where I came/Spin an old record track by track/It’s been awhile since I heard a song like that/Me and my buddies go drinking til dawn/Catchin’ up on life since I’ve been gone/A little bit of old would make me feel brand new/If I had a week with nothin’ to do.”

Since winning American Idol, Chayce has had plenty to do

The song ends: “…it’ll be another year before I got a week of nothin’ to do.” Indeed, on the heels of releasing “Can’t Do Without Me,” a duet with BMR labelmate Lindsay Ell, Chayce is on the road performing all over the country, amid writing and planning a solo record release.

Despite Luke Combs pushing his Canadian tour to November, Chayce has a full concert schedule. On March 5 the singer plays the 95.5 The Bull 12th Annual Guitar Pull in Las Vegas with Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina and other Country artists. After more solo concert dates, Chayce opens for Jimmie Allen beginning on April 28 in Cincinnati Ohio.

American Idol crowned Chayce the winner on the season 19 finale in May 2021. The singer was the first Idol winner to release a self-penned coronation single. That song “23,” sat at No. 1 on iTunes overall chart for days, and charted at No. 1 on Billboard.
