American Idol season 19 alum Casey Bishop has been working on new music. And now, she teases a short snip of her forthcoming single. She doesn’t tag a title, but before opening for John Fogerty in her hometown, Estero, Florida, Casey said she hoped to sing a new song titled “Kerosene.”
She only reveals 20 seconds of the 3:23 minute song, which kicks off with a seductive bass and features Casey singing “We love to play with matches/strike flames and burn down to ashes/can’t keep away but I hate to stay…” and that’s all fans get for now.
The teen rocker, who finished fourth on American Idol in 2021 behind Grace Kinstler, Willie Spence and winner Chayce Beckham, respectively, is busy at work writing and recording her debut EP after signing a record deal with 19 Recordings/BMG.
Last year, Casey traveled to Los Angeles for writing and recording sessions with producer/singer-songwriter Chris Greatti’s in his home studio.
Casey plans to release an EP in 2022
According to the singer’s hometown newspaper, the News-Press, Casey started writing songs with Greatti, who also worked with Yungblud and Blink 182, the day after the American Idol finale in May. “Then I just kept going back and forth over there,” she said, “and we just keep on writing bangers.” Casey was known for her big voiced renditions of classic and heavy metal rock songs.
She describes the new songs she is writing as rock and alternative rock. The songs have an angry and aggressive overtone says Casey, after being inspired by a past romantic breakup.
Casey previously said that 19 Recordings and BMG planned to release the EP, or at least some of the songs, in early 2022. Teasing a song means that the label plans to release it soon, so watch out for that.
