American Idol: Watch Fritz Hager’s Quirky ‘Caroline’ Music Video

American Idol Fritz Hager "Caroline" Music Video

Fritz Hager has released the music video for his irresistible power pop single “Caroline.”

The song, written by Fritz, season 18 alum Francisco Martin and Drew Pearson, is out on all digital platforms, and spins “a fictitious tale of a one-night-stand; a sitcom-esque drama wherein the main male character forgets the name of his heroine acquaintance,” according to a press release. “Confronted by the light of day on the ‘morning after,’ the singer tries to discern whether he’s experiencing apathetic amnesia or a not-so-funny nightmare.”

In the clip, Fritz plays the omniscient narrator in a big suit, strumming a guitar, as a couple wake up in the morning, the boy embarrassed that he may or may not remember the name of the girl he went home with the night before.

Hilarity ensues, as finally, in a coffee shop, the barista calls out the girl’s name and the boy is so relieved that he’s loudly thanking the Gods as wary patrons look on. The three wind up on a California beach. The clip ends with the couple…well they notice that they aren’t alone!

“Music video out now!” Fritz writes on social media. “Huge thank you to @its.jackson.sage @jakezahm_ and @daltonskalla for being a part of this, and only love to @joshuaonenineproductions for filming.”

Fritz continued, “We shot this video in a day and it was some of the most fun I’ve ever had. Check out the full video on my YouTube, and keep streaming Caroline!”

Yes keep streaming! Because the saga of the streaming is the real “Caroline” backstory. After the American Idol 2022 alum finished the season in fourth place, Idol’s recording arm, 19 Records took an interest in the singer. But the “faceless old white dudes,” as Fritz called them, did not want to release “Caroline” until it amassed 15K pre-saves. It took Fritz a couple of months, along with some begging, pleading and bribing fans to accomplish the task. But finally he released the song on January 12.

The music video was filmed before the song even had a release date! But finally, Fritz can move on to the next single.
