  1. Too bad about Michael and Leah. :( I had hoped Leah would make Top 24, especially since they seem hell-bent on having a girl win.

  2. Are any of these people the girl from Georgia with the pink dress that she said she paid 4.50 for? I really dislike country music but I totally fell for her story. Does anyone remember her name?

  3. The only surprise to me is Leah, and only if it was in the first/second day initial auditions. I thought she seemed a little fragile and was passed to Hollywood for some possible group drama. She seemed like the type that could blow up if somebody started messing up in group practice.

  4. yeah isnt she the one who said she had never been on an AERO-plane before? lol

  5. So far out of this group only the auditions of Leah Laurenti and Holly Hardin have aired. Holly=Atlanta Guitar Girl; Leah = Boston “no secular music girl.”

Jason Diaz is the vaguely Lenny Kravitz like kid who’s been previewed (hip black kid with a rock(ish) band). Luke Edgemon is some dude whose utterly generic YouTubes were noted on this site in digging up contestants.

Michael Castro is–and it appears, shall remain–Jason Castro’s brother. C’mon, buddy–the brother thing? That was NEVER going to work.

Yeah, I thought it was strange that he was back after not getting very far last year (at least, I don’t think he got far). I am glad for Andrew Cook’s sake that he didn’t try out last year or this year, though I suppose he still has time.

Have there ever been any siblings of contestants who got past Hollywood ever get past Hollywood themselves?

  7. Yeah, I thought it was strange that he was back after not getting very far last year (at least, I don’t think he got far).

Michael got pretty far last year. He was cut in the rooms right before the Top 50.

Ah, okay. For some reason I thought he’d not made it out of Texas (or wherever he auditioned). My only other season watching in real time was last year and I didn’t pay a lot of attention till the final 36. I guess the people who make the top 100-200 really have gotten quite far — past tens of thousands of others, anyway.

I wonder what particular thing about Michael keeps him from getting further (other than the brother thing)…

  9. I’m surprised to see Leah was cut, but there are so many contestants we haven’t seen yet.

  10. Wasn’t Leah the person called the best of the day in her Boston audition? A little surprised she got cut so quickly, although I didn’t think she was all that great, really.

  11. Newly idenfitied cuts: Meagan Wright, Melissa Bitanga, Stephanie Daulong.

  12. Up here in Central New York, we’re rooting for Benjamin Bright who was one of the guys playing guitar and singing during the Boston audition. We’ve never had anyone in the Top 12 from CNY! It’s time!

  13. Newly idenfitied cuts: Meagan Wright, Melissa Bitanga, Stephanie Daulong.

Huh. I thought Stephanie was pretty good. Melissa, not so much.

  14. Michael Castro isn’t really a good singer. I mean last year he did Gavid Degraw – I’m In Love with a Girl

He claims he started singing 20 days before the audition, his big bro sang a year before his first audition.

If you look @ his audition in season 8, it was pretty bland and felt completely forced.

  15. Leah Laurenti

for realz? damn it she was me favorite so far.

  16. I really like Michael Castro’s EP. His voice is different but I like it a lot. He’s worked so hard in the past year, taking lessons, writing music. Sorry he got cut.

  17. Dammit, I was determined to avoid all spoilers, but in order to post a comment I had to scroll down and accidentally saw the words “Leah was cut.” Aaargh!

What I wanted to say was that this Joe’s Place blog posted a false item a while back about Paula returning the show, so I’d take all of his information with a grain of salt.

  18. will, JoesPlace has correctly spoiled the Top 24/36 for the last few years. The info is reliable.

  19. Okay, Joanna S., I guess I shouldn’t make a generalization based on one false item.

But for the life of me, I will never understand why fans of the show want or need Hollywood Week spoilers. But carry on, I’m outta here!

  20. Leah Laurenti was on my list of possible TOP 24. You just never know how a contestant will react once in Hollywood. That’s why it is too early to declare a fan favorite.

  21. I’m hoping that Jonathan Stills, from Rochester, NY is still in the running. Anyone hear anything?::::smile::::.

I haven’t heard anything. I live in Rochester NY! They talked about him on the news! :) They said on the news he was going to be shown next week. YAY A LOCAL GUY! :)

  23. You just never know how a contestant will react once in Hollywood. That’s why it is too early to declare a fan favorite.

Nah Grammie Kari. It’s not to early. If you like someone then you pick them. Of course if you only like 1 person out of all of them well, then it will be tough. :)

  24. For me, first impressions can be unreliable. Sometimes the contestants know one or two songs that they can sing well, which they have practiced for years, but given new songs to learn in a short time, some of them just can’t do it. I’ve often changed my mind about a contestant after the audition when I see them in Hollywood. So in my mind I have ideas of who I like but I don’t even know their names. I figure if they’re really good, they’ll stand out again in Hollywood.

  25. I’m surprised at Leah Laurenti getting cut. I thought she had a great voice. Katie Bernard, not so much — she’s obviously a talented kid, but I really think that 16 is too young for this competition. She should try out again in a few years.

If its true that both got cut, it suggests the producers who did the background packages didn’t do a very good job of guessing which contestants would survive. Up until this year, the producers knew who had made it into the semis long before the auditions started. This year they were flying blind during the first week. Interesting.

For me the only time I have ever changed my mind about contestants was in season 7. It’s like what happened? Yikes!

  27. JIM RANGER’S NAME SHOULD NOT BE ON THIS LIST—-Just wait until you are all introduced to his voice this tuesday night in the LA audition. You will be just as shocked as we were to hear he got cut this early in the competition. He’s an amazing person with an amazing voice. Im extremely excited the rest of you will get the opprotunity to hear his gift.

*I am more then confident this will not be the last time you see his name or get the opprotunity to hear his voice. His “Use Me” song will be spinning on radio station soon, I just know it! ;)

  28. @SybilTrelawney:

Katie Bernard is 22. Just an FYI. She’s incredibly talented
