American Idol Ratings: Still #1

via Mediaweek:

Fox opened the evening with American Idol (#1, 24.44 million; A18-49: #1, 8.9 rating/23 share at 8 p.m.), the highest rated show of the evening, followed by the new season of Kitchen Nightmares at 9.27 million viewers (#4) and a second-place 3.9/10 among adults 18-49 at 9 p.m. While Kitchen Nightmares certainly sounds good on paper, retention out of the second-half of lead-in American Idol (Viewers: 25.52 million; A18-49: 9.3/23 at 8:30 p.m.) was only 36 percent in total viewers and 42 percent in the demo.

Last Tuesday, Idol averaged 24.2 million viewers, 13.5/21 households. Last year’s comparable episode wasn’t comparable at all–the Tuesday February 3rd, 2009 episode featured the first night of Hollywood, averaging 26.28 million viewers and a 9.9 rating/25 share among adults 18-49 from 8-9 p.m.

We’ll see if those numbers hold up next week. With new judge, Ellen Degeneres coming on board I think they will.

Amen to that. I can’t remember when we’ve had such a blah group of singers. I can only remember the voices of the 16 year old with alzheimer’s grandma and gang guy.

I am hoping they will highlight the “real” singers in Hollywood.

  3. They lost me last night. I’ve sat through enough crappy auditions to last me a freakin lifetime. Actually, the “crappy” part wouldn’t be so bad, if they were even slightly entertaining, but they’re not.

I’m excited to see what Ellen brings to the table though, so I’ll definitely be tuning in again next week.

  4. I think numbers will be up next week with even non idol fans tuning in to see how Ellen does.

LOL! ITA! Although I think it’s on for more than a week. Tonight, next week and one show after that??? Why does it seem like it’s taking FOREVER to get to the Top 24 this year??

  6. I think it is because there have not been any shocking or outstanding auditions. Now, tonight’s show was good; why couldn’t the others be like this?

    Bring on Hollywood!
