American Idol Ratings: Still #1

via Mediaweek:

Fox opened the evening with American Idol (#1, 24.44 million; A18-49: #1, 8.9 rating/23 share at 8 p.m.), the highest rated show of the evening, followed by the new season of Kitchen Nightmares at 9.27 million viewers (#4) and a second-place 3.9/10 among adults 18-49 at 9 p.m. While Kitchen Nightmares certainly sounds good on paper, retention out of the second-half of lead-in American Idol (Viewers: 25.52 million; A18-49: 9.3/23 at 8:30 p.m.) was only 36 percent in total viewers and 42 percent in the demo.

Last Tuesday, Idol averaged 24.2 million viewers, 13.5/21 households. Last year’s comparable episode wasn’t comparable at all–the Tuesday February 3rd, 2009 episode featured the first night of Hollywood, averaging 26.28 million viewers and a 9.9 rating/25 share among adults 18-49 from 8-9 p.m.

We’ll see if those numbers hold up next week. With new judge, Ellen Degeneres coming on board I think they will.
