American Idol 9 Ratings: The Numbers Drop after Ellen’s Debut

Last night’s Hollywood group round episode ratings dropped off a bit from Tuesday night’s healthy Ellen-inspired numbers:

via Mediaweek:

Top-rated 9 p.m. honors fell in Fox’s corner, of course, with blockbuster American Idol at 25.02 million viewers and a 9.5/23 among adults 18-49.

Tuesday night’s numbers were 27.74 million viewers and a 10.1 rating/26 share among adults 18-49 at 8 p.m.

I expected a drop in viewers last night, as a portion of the audience who were Ellen-curious inevitably tuned out. Interestingly, there was wider margin between Tuesday and Wednesday’s numbers last week:

Tuesday, February 2 – 20.83 million viewers and a 7.7/20 among adults 18-49.
Wednesday February 3 – 24.44 million; A18-49: #1, 8.9 rating/23 share at 8 p.m.

Plus, Wednesday’s lower numbers were still higher than both nights last week. I would venture to say–so far so good.

  1. I know I couldn’t watch because our cable was out due to Snowmageddon 2010: Pt. II: SnowMyGod! It had nothing to do with Ellen. I look forward to watching soon.

  2. i think wednesdays will consistently hav lower ratings cuz of modern family lol

  3. I think you’re mixing up numbers mj, last week Tuesday was 24.44 and Wednesday was 20.83.

Those are excellent numbers and I can’t see any other reason than Ellen.
This year the numbers for Wednesday are consistently lower than Tuesday not only because of the competition but probably because they start the shown at 9 and not at 8 anymore.

  4. Ellen is just another talking head to me.

    But she’s CUTE.

    Surely that counts for something.
