American Idol 9 Ratings: The Numbers Drop after Ellen’s Debut

Last night’s Hollywood group round episode ratings dropped off a bit from Tuesday night’s healthy Ellen-inspired numbers:

via Mediaweek:

Top-rated 9 p.m. honors fell in Fox’s corner, of course, with blockbuster American Idol at 25.02 million viewers and a 9.5/23 among adults 18-49.

Tuesday night’s numbers were 27.74 million viewers and a 10.1 rating/26 share among adults 18-49 at 8 p.m.

I expected a drop in viewers last night, as a portion of the audience who were Ellen-curious inevitably tuned out. Interestingly, there was wider margin between Tuesday and Wednesday’s numbers last week:

Tuesday, February 2 – 20.83 million viewers and a 7.7/20 among adults 18-49.
Wednesday February 3 – 24.44 million; A18-49: #1, 8.9 rating/23 share at 8 p.m.

Plus, Wednesday’s lower numbers were still higher than both nights last week. I would venture to say–so far so good.
