On Sunday (April 30) the American Idol Top 12 sang songs from artists inducted into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame for your votes. It was the first night of Idol Coast to Coast. The show aired at the same time in all 48 states, allowing most Americans to vote while they watched. Voting closed at the end of the last commercial break, after which host Ryan Seacrest announced the Top 10. (Read our Recap)
We say goodbye to Lucy Love and Nutsa
Going home: Lucy Love and Nutsa, the two contestants the judges saved last week, so not a big shock. Maybe the judges should allow America to pick. It’s like Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan are forcing contestants on to viewers who don’t want them. Unless a wildcard pick comes out with a break out performance, they are likely leaving the competition the week after they are saved. In Lucy’s case, if she could not advance based on singing a highly personal original song as she did at Top 20, it’s probably time for her to leave the competition. Nutsa just kept doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results. She doesn’t know how to tone it down.
On Monday’s show (May 1), the judges choose the songs for the contestants. Last year, each of the singers was offered three songs to choose from, without knowing which judge picked it. The judge with the most songs chosen “wins.” Right now, the front runners seem to be Iam Tongi and Warren Peay. We Ani and Megan Danielle are also contenders.
As he always is, Adam Lambert was a fantastic mentor. He’s kind, but honest, and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the table. The contestants seemed to appreciate his advice!
What happened to the Stagecoach trip?
On Friday, the Top 12 sat in the front row of Luke Bryan’s Stagecoach Festival concert in Indio, California. Usually outings like that provide content for the show. Maybe producers are saving it for Monday, when there are fewer contestants performing. THREE singers will leave the competition at the end of the show leaving a Top 7! Plus Chayce Beckham will perform his new song, “Til the Day That I Die.”
American Idol 2023: Full Season 21 Schedule (Updated 4/26)
I’m not going to offer a formal prediction before the contestants perform Monday night. But Oliver Steele is probably leaving the competition. He’s a talented guy, but not delivering standout performances Maybe Tyson Venegas and Marybeth Byrd will leave as well.
Another poll will go up after Monday’s episode, and a compilation of the results from both shows will be posted at the end of the week.
