After auditioning for American Idol twice, Hunter Metts’ third time resulted in three enthusiastic yeses from the judges. In fact, after the singer performed “All the Pretty Girls” by KALEO, both Katy Perry and Luke Bryan deemed him “Top 10.”
Accompanying himself on guitar, Hunter wowed all three judges with his high, sweet tone. “There was one note you hit that man, I got the real deal chills,” gushed Luke. “I went future planet!” declared Katy. “I literally pulled up my Mission Impossible thing…HUNTER METTS TOP 10!”
“We got plans for you son!” teases Lionel Richie, brandishing a fake cigar. “All you got to do is stay in your lane and take us on a journey.”
After, Luke asks Hunter to invite his sister in from the holding room. Surely, sister Maddie is an important part of his backstory, which viewers will certainly see when Hunter’s audition airs on this Sunday’s American Idol.
In a clip posted to Hunter’s Instagram account, the Franklin, Tenn. native explains that since age 14, his father has been in and out of jobs in the music industry. “Nothing I have seen has been glamorous or worthwhile.” Hunter says, previewing his personal story.
The singer is near tears as all three judges give him a yes. Sister is crying too. The next episode of American Idol airs on ABC Sunday Feb 28 at 8 pm ET/PT.
