Another solid night of American Idol auditions. I’m still really happy with the judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan. However, I wish they’d disagree more. It’s either three yeses or three nos from these guys. Other than Ron Bultongez in the premiere, there has literally been no divided votes. I want to see a judge fight for a favorite. Or at least see some spirited discussion before a decision is made. Simon, Paula and Randy disagreed plenty, and it often made for good TV.
In any case, hats off to the team editing these auditions. The two hours are still flying by for me. The storytelling for the most part has been compelling. However, the bit with the Ukrainian dude, Misha Gontar fell flat. And I don’t even know what to say about the segment with Michelle Sussett and her “dance party.” That Katy Perry needs her own sitcom. Or something.
Speaking of the talent, there were more strong singers tonight. My favorites were Brandon Diaz and surprisingly, Laine Hardy. Garrett Jacobs and Rissa Watson were also very good. I’m going to need to see Michelle Sussett in a non-booty shaking situation before I decide about her.
