In his weekly chat with Taste of Country, American Idol mentor, Scott Borchetta, discussed front runners and how they are emerging from the pack.
“I think you’re starting to see some leaders emerge,” Scott said, “If you look at the ones who are becoming the frontrunners … those are the ones who every week are upping their game.”
Here is Scott’s take on a few of the pack leaders, as they prepare to sing Kelly Clarkson songs on tonight’s 2 hour performance/results show.
- “Kelly [Clarkson] just responded to Nick [Fradiani]. Nick has a real momentum because he’s starting to see the work that we’re doing behind the scenes pay off [Nick sang “Man in the Mirror’ last week]. That was a guy that wouldn’t even look you in the eye, wouldn’t even look down the camera when he came to this competition.”
- “If [Jax] pulls this off [her Kelly Clarkson song, “Beautiful Disaster”] like she did in rehearsal, and the way that we recorded it in the studio this last weekend … you’re gonna see a new side of Jax that I think is gonna expand what her artist profile is.”
- On country singer, Maddie Walker’s elimination last week: “I think it’s just a matter of development. She was one of the ones that if I could take her off the show for a year and work with her, I think she’s a Top 5.”
Taste of Country confirms what finalist, Tyanna Jones revealed last night regarding the Twitter “twist.” Once the bottom two are announced, they’ll perform in a “save situation.” Over the commercial break, fans will vote via twitter, deciding in real time, which singer goes home. “It all happens over four or five minutes.” ETA: The Save Me Songs will also be live streamed at AmericanIdol.com.
The American Idol Top 9 perform tonight at 8/7c PM on FOX.
The Borchetta Breakdown: Top 9
Scott discusses what each of the Top 9 need to do this week when they take on Kelly Clarkson’s catalog. He thinks Clark will have the easiest time, Daniel Seavey has the biggest challenge. He calls Quentin a “Rock Star.”
