American Idol alum Alejandro Aranda kicks off a confident era with his new single “Pieces”

It’s a new era for Alejandro Aranda, the artist formerly known as Scarypoolparty. The American Idol alum has released his first single, “Pieces” as an independent artist, and under his real name.

After finishing American Idol 2019 in second place behind winner Laine Hardy, Alejandro launched a music career under the moniker Scarypoolparty, as part of Hollywood Records/19 Recordings. He embarked on a prolific run, releasing three albums in three years. Yet, his mental health struggles kept him from fully promoting his work, as he canceled appearances and spent swaths of time off of social media.

Now, the singer-songwriter writes in a lengthy note to fans on social media before he dropped the song, that he’s feeling better than he has in a long time. Recently, he revealed that moving forward in his musical career, he’ll be releasing music under his given name, Alejandro Aranda, and will no longer be known as Scarypoolparty.

“I was in a terrible mental state personally” after coming off of American Idol

“My song “pieces” is out tonight at midnight,” Alejandro wrote. “And this will be my first time releasing a song in almost a year and a half and also the first song with my actual name.

He shares about his struggles coming off of American Idol: “I’ve been through a lot especially being signed to a major label right after a reality TV show in which there is this spirit of high and getting the flow of things in a span of 4 years. But honestly I was in a terrible mental state personally at that time.I didn’t have a clue what I wanted to be as an artist, and the only person I have to blame is myself for the lack of vision on what I wanted.”

While his time with a major label was difficult, he’s grateful for the experience. “I am forever grateful for everyone I have worked with and crossed paths with and beyond blessed for the opportunities to play shows and be a musician.,” he writes. “And on top of that, so many people made my dreams come true and opened so many doors and I’ll always hold that to my heart.”

“I am not hiding behind an artist name and more then ready to put out music”

“But now I am not hiding behind an artist name and I am more then ready to put out music cause I feel like I’m finally myself again,” Alejandro writes. “I still struggle a lot cause i’m a really flawed human lol but I am more grounded then ever before.

He goes on to thank his management, producer and photographer before saying, “Beyond grateful and so excited for the future.” and thanking his fans for sticking around, while promising that new music is coming. “I hope you guys like the new song! I got so many new songs that will come out after pieces and I’m so excited. But just wanted to hop online and say thank you to every person who has supported me and my music. It goes without to say without you guys I wouldn’t be a musician or be able to call myself an artist<3 love y’all! Hope you guys like the new song!”
