Simon Cowell as…Hannibal Lecter? It’s “Simon of the Lambs,” Y’all. America’s Got Talent, the summer variety talent competition premieres on May 31. Simon, the creator/producer of the show will be be sitting on the judges panel for the first time ever, alongside Heidi Klum, Mel B. and Howie Mandel.
Two new promos for the upcoming summer show premiered during the Monday April 25 edition of The Voice. The first spot was a take off on the 1990 film, Silence of the Lambs, with Simon wheeled into the arena to meet his fellow judges, strapped into a gurney with a metal plate covering his face, a la Anthony Hopkins.
“Was this necessary?” asks Simon, after his face mask is ripped off, “I don’t actually bite.” Howie answers, “That’s not what we heard.” Host Nick Cannon points to the stage where the first act is waiting to perform. “Dinner is served,” Simon says slyly, hinting that maybe he DOES actually bite.

Another promo has Simon reacting snarkily to one act, and practically crying along with another. Aw. Simon’s son, little Eric Cowell makes a cameo wearing an adorable set of earphones. And he hits that buzzer, just like his old man! “I’m getting him in training!” quips Simon. There’s also a montage of the usual acts: Magicians, acrobats, animal, danger and gross-out acts.
And of course, singers. I’ve heard Simon is very keen to find the next big pop group, boy or girl. We’ll see!
