Idol Sales News – Week Ending 06/21/15

UPDATE: Billboard has posted the official Soundscan sales numbers for this week. Adam Lambert’s 3rd studio album, The Original High, sold 47,000 this week, to land a #3 spot on the Billboard 200 behind Taylor Swift’s 1989 at #2 (57,000) and James Taylor’s Before This World at #1 (97,000). James sold 97,000. Adam and James both exceeding earlier sales predictions. Adam’s pure album sales (sans streaming) were 42,000.

James Taylor “Before This World” becomes his first number one on the Album and BB200 chart. He even out-sold the predictions. Taylor Swift continues to flex her muscles coming in second on the combined chart up from 4th on sales.

Idol Adam Lambert manages his third album in the top 3 on the BB200 with stronger than anticipated album sales (he too exceeded the predictions). He is third on the combined chart and second in sales.

Ed Sheeran has a good week on the 1 year anniversary of “X”. It surges into 4th followed by a debuting Hilary Duff. Same Hunt benefits from strong TEAs/SEAs to move up to 6th (from 14th in sales). Nate Ruess has more fun with “Fun” on the charts, but a sales debut of 5th isn’t too bad. He falls to 7th on combined. Zac Brown Band continues to have legs at 8th, Maroon 5 capitalizes on successful singles for 9th and so does Meghan Trainor for 10th.

Fifth Harmony moves on to the combined chart with the power of their single and nabs the 34th spot.

HDD is predicting that Tori Kelly will have the top debut with 55-65k in sales. That may even be enough to top the chart next week depending on how Taylor’s single sales go.
