2023 Emmy Award Winners: Derek Hough nabs 4th Emmy, DWTS wins two

Congratulations to Dancing with the Stars judge and former pro dancer Derek Hough who nabbed his fourth Emmy Award for Choreography. The 2023 Emmy Awards are finally happening after being delayed by the actors and writers strikes. Typically, the Emmys kick off the fall season in September, but now it’s serving as an intro to the winter midseason.

The Creative Arts Emmys took place at the Peacock Theater at L.A. Live on Saturday and Sunday. However, the variety, non-fiction and reality programming categories were all revealed on Sunday night (Dec 7).

Derek was nominated for his choreography for a routine involving himself, his then fiance (now wife) Hayley Erbert and the troup for Michael Buble’s performance of his song “Higher” on Dancing with the Stars season 31 “Michael Buble Night.” Additionally, Dancing with the Stars won two awards in the Lighting Design/Lighting Direction category and in the Technical Direction and Camerwork category.

While accepting his award, Derek tearfully dedicated the award to his wife Hayley

While accepting the award, People magazine reports Derek’s eyes welled up as he praised his wife Hayley Erbert, who is recovering from recent surgery on her skull.

“Exactly a month ago, I was in the hospital. This was a different moment,” he said tearfully. “A month ago was a life-changing moment that reminded me to really cherish and savor every moment.”

“I want to dedicate this to my beautiful wife,” he continued. “I just flew in from Washington, D.C., last night. Your strength and your courage this whole month has been unbelievable. You inspired me every day.”

Remaining Emmys will be handed out in prime time

All of the reality categories have been handed out EXCEPT for Outstanding Reality Competition Program category where Amazing Race, RuPaul’s Drag Race, Survivor, Top Chef and The Voice are nominated. The remaining Emmys will be handed out in Primetime. The event will air on FOX Monday, January 15 at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT.

The Voice and Amazing Race still have a chance to win. However, American Idol, Survivor, The Masked Singer and So You Think You Can Dance were totally shut out. See the nominations HERE. and see the Creative Arts Emmys winners for Sunday HERE. Saturday’s winners are HERE. Anthony Anderson hosts.
