A big congratulations go out to Mark Burnett and everyone involved with The Voice. The NBC series won the Emmy for Outstanding Competition Reality Show. It’s the show’s third win in the category. Hooray.

I give Jimmy Kimmel high marks on his Emmy hosting performance. He kept up a brisk pace and his bits were funny! The opening sketch involved Jimmy hitch hiking to the Emmys and winding up in cars with various TV stars. The culmination was Jimmy and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clark) from Game of Thrones riding in to Los Angeles on a dragon. What happens to Ryan Seacrest is not to be missed. Jimmy and fellow talk show host James Corden Carpool Karaoke along to “Wake Me Up Before You Go Go” by Wham until James kicks Jimmy out of the car. The big cameo, however, came from Jeb! Bush YES THE JEB BUSH who played the chauffeur in the Veep send up.

During Jimmy’s studio monologue, he laid total blame on producer Mark Burnett for the rise of Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump. Burnett is the producer of the Trump hosted Apprentice. Later, in his acceptance speech for The Voice Burnett quipped that new coaches Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys would be joining the Supreme Court…

Anybody who watches Jimmy Kimmel Live knows about the long-time running in-joke between “Frenemies” Matt Damon and Jimmy Kimmel which includes a nightly apology from Jimmy for bumping the actor from the guest list. And of course, there is the hilarious “I’m f*cking Ben Matt Damon” bit from a few years ago.

Tonight, Matt walked on stage eating an apple to torment Jimmy after his show lost in the Outstanding Variety Show category to Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. If you never watch Kimmel it might not make any sense…or maybe it will.

American Idol singer and pop star, Tori Kelly accompanied herself on acoustic guitar for a gorgeous rendition of “Hallelujah” which she performed during the In Memoriam segment. Goodbye to Prince, David Bowie, Patti Duke, Morley Safer and more beloved stars. No, the late The Voice star, Christina Grimmie was NOT included in the montage.
