    Ouch…

  • Soakey

I think we’ve all had enough of watching ineffectual rich people bask while the struggling and poor sing for fame or just crumbs.

The show is a tacky mess that I’m shocked Verizon wants to be associated with.   Pepsi, know part of the celebs-as-gods cultural shift, but Verizon usually aims towards the regular joe and jane.   yes, they want the teen market, but is this distasteful mess of a show really the right way to approach it?  Copying as much as he did, you know Simon would never entertain the idea of XFactor Gives Back, he’d much rather use that airtime to show himself in split linen down to the crotch on a dappled sunbed.

I hope the audience goes down even further.   Its just an appalling show, run by appalling people.

I guess this week TVoice won the ratings again for talent show; I’m surprised TBBT went down this week.  I enjoyed this weeks’ sitcom.

IMO it is a better show than Idol is.

I think the problem for the X Factor is that too many people see it as being the same show as AI, just not as interesting.  Even some of the changes that the show made this year bring it closer to the same tone as American Idol.  The songs used during the Bootcamp and Judges Houses rounds are closer to the ones that AI would use, instead of the songs that XF used last year.  And the lack of the band being involved in the Bootcamp auditions gave the shows a similar feel to AI’s Hollywood Week performances.

  • wkstrack

That sucks I think XF is a better show than The Voice. Oh well.

  • fantoo1

Not as far as contestant quality…

  • merkureye

Don’t understand what is considered so appalling about XFactor as opposed to AI.

Simon Fuller vs. Simon Cowell – both mega-wealthy egomaniacs

XF judges vs. AI judges -I am really enjoying Demi, LA, Britney and Simon.  We are seeing real mentoring (at least a little bit ala Demi telling CeCe she was unlikeable).  AI’s Jimmy Iovine is mentoring?  All he does is ask “what song are you going to sing?” and then after reading the vote results, offers too little too late “advice” which is really just observation (example “great singer, bad song choices” duh).- uhm no.  AI judges input for last two years was inconsistent at best and useless at worst.  There were no credible suggestions or observations that I saw given by ST, JLo, or Dawg.  No show preparation at all by them.  AI judges were payroll bandits IMO.

AI contestants vs. XF contestants – Both struggling to get exposure and a “break” in the business so, I see no difference.

XF is copying AI” =  I see no problem with that.  AI was stupid for not running the show both in the Fall and Spring to begin with.  Now we have sour grapes for XF and The Voice copying AI in a Fall program slot where AI chose not to compete?  uhm . . .  not a reasonable criticism.

XF Bootcamp vs. AI HW - Actually, I like XF Bootcamp concept with the competitors watching each others performances in the background while sitting on floor.  Pretty cool.  What we get from AI Hollywood Week is Heejun talking sh*t – behind everyone’s back of course – otherwise he would have been laid out flat on his arse.

Where I do give AI more credit is what they do for the kids by running the Summer Tour.  That gets them a little more exposure, a little more money, and a life experience they will never forget.  For everyone but a few, most will go back after the tour to being struggling artists.

That being said, if XF can gain and keep an audience and survive, I see enough “marketable” talent this year (Carly, Beatrice, Arin, Lyla, Lyric 145, Emblem3) that I believe might persuade XF PsTB to want to get involved with launching some careers so they can take credit as “starmakers” (XF needs some stat).

  • Larc

Just my opinion, but I don’t think US XF and The Voice could be more mediocre than they are.  Both have pretty much proved to be gateways to obscurity for their contestants so far.  Idol has at least produced a few stars.

For me it all depends on which show has talent I am interested in watching.  I never watch auditions, so I just started watching XF this week and I am interested in a few of the acts.  I do like the groups category.  As far as judges and mentoring goes, I think the Voice blows both AI and XF away, but I don’t really like the format of the Voice once it gets to live shows.

  • elliegrll

AI was stupid for not running the show both in the Fall and Spring to begin with

The producers didn’t air the show twice a year, because they knew that doing so would have a negative impact on both the show and the ratings.

I don’t think that the producers of AI have any sour grapes about the X Factor, since the ratings speak for volumes.  Not to mention that out of the three shows, AI has proven to be the one with the most loyal audience.

  • Jazz_11

“AI was stupid for not running the show both in the Fall and Spring to begin with.”

Ohh please don’t!!! I think they’re smart for not making the Fall’s show. AI ratings’ not as it used to be and television’s full of reality singing contest now. If AI has another show in the Fall their ratings going to decrease even more.
IMO, NBC/The Voice’s so arrogant that they want to have a face-off with AI on the Spring.

  • OffLeash

Tacky and distasteful. I couldn’t have described it better. The show is vulgar and mean-spirited. Bleh. I also hope the ratings keep dipping so FOX gets rid of Simon and this mess.

  • fantoo1

Final numbers are in-no adjustments have been made.

It seems like for two seasons in a row now, people overestimated how the show would do in ratings. For season 1, people thought the return of Simon and Paula would cause huge ratings putting idol to shame. It was also a very highly rated show in the UK and I think people assumed the same would happen here. For season 2, people assumed that Britney would bring in huge ratings and the fact that they had a non-WGWG winner would help the ratings.

  • OffLeash

Ouch! Now I’m curious to find out who Simon’s gonna blame this time for the lower-than-expected ratings. He sacked the host and Nicole last time. Who’s next?

  • http://twitter.com/newbornstarr Wally.

Shame really. This season is miles better than the first season, and the talent is really good. I like a handful of people. Lyric 145, Lylas, Jennel, and CeCe and others are talented people who deserves to be see by alot more then just 9 million.

  • lagom_lubot_si_mj

    HAHAHAHHAHA LOL!

too bad though since this season seems to be better than last year although it still has some major annoyances.  the drama (which isn’t exclusive to this show) is way too ramped up and obviously manufactured.  i like my drama more convincing or at least hilariously entertaining.

  • merkureye

My previous post was really a response to “Soakey”.  Soakey said that XF was a tacky show and then lamented in the very next sentence that XF copied AI.  Logically, then Soakey must believe both are tacky.  I can only conclude that it is Simon’s association with XF that is the difference.  Whether Simon is liked or not by AI fans (I am an AI-first fan), one must admit that AI’s success was in part due to Simon’s clever “schtick” as judge for its first 8 seasons.

As for Simon Cowell wearing linen shirts with plunging necklines, I will admit I prefer that look more for the female gender on the panel.  Anyway, Demi and Simon already decided who would be showing cleavage on CONAN a few days back.

The ratings tell a different story.

  • MrTemecula

If the show’s ratings sink into the low 2′s, then Fox cannot justify the amount they are paying for it. Not that I would be disappointed. The show is more ick-factor and train-wrecky than actually hearing good vocals. Plus, i doubt the integrity of the vocals since they are holding auditions outside. There should be ambient and wind sounds, but instead most have crystal voices as if the magic of auto-tune was employed. Not cool since part of this is a singing contest.
