Here are last night’s ratings from tvbythenumbers.  The table with the ratings breakdown isn’t up yet.

In its second regular Monday episode NBC’s The Voice drew a 5.9 adults 18-49 rating, down 12% vs. a 6.7 adults 18-49 rating last Monday night. In its second episode, Smash had a  2.8 adults 18-49 rating, down a somewhat worrisome 26% vs. a 3.8 rating in its premiere last Monday. That still easily put NBC on top the Monday adults 18-49 ratings for the second Monday in a row. Those two shows continue to give NBC their best timeslot ratings in many years (8-10p since March 5, 2007, 10-11p since April 13, 2009).

David looks tired in that video.  He must be existing on about 4 hrs. a sleep a night for the past month.  So nice of him to make a Valentine Vlog.  He is just the nicest guy.  What he said is so true.  We get so busy in our lives we forget to tell those that we love how we truly feel.  Thanks for the reminder, David.

walking dead , the voice, smash and Alcatraz are my fav shows this year.  So far, Idol isn’t doing it for me.

So when do we get to hear that Haley song? Did we ever get a leak from her performance at that Grammy thing? Did anyone tweet a reaction or write anything about what it sounded like? Anyone? Bueller?

Oh yay, Adam’s Better Than I Know Myself video is up on itunes now! It looks so pretty on my iphone.

Got a few responses, one industry guys said she’d get a 2013 Best New Artist Grammy Nod, but the others we found are mum other than “Amazing”. Can’t get deets on the song itself, probably a non-disclosure was signed for hearing it is my guess. 

Haley is a featured artist today at a Valentines Event honoring Larry King. Joe Piscopo is the emcee and Michael Bolton will be there as well. 5k per table, 500.00 per person event. Pretty happening Haley:)

I did read a post reporting that they read a tweet saying they know they weren’t supposed to but they did record Haley’s performance of her debut

See, that’s why I stand by my love of the entire AI journey, including hollywood week. I think it better prepares your for the real life hustle. Haley can’t just sing her way to the top, she has to have a great personally and be comfortable with meeting new people and developing new relationships. I hope she makes new fans/contacts there.

I think it’s fine after all the shots the voice has taken at idol.

The composer of “Nandito Ako,” Aaron Paul del Rosario, sent an open
letter to David Archuleta. Following are excerpts. Hear ye, hear ye

“First of all, thank you! There are so many beautiful Filipino songs
and for you to sing mine is such a blessing. When you finished as a
finalist in ‘American Idol,’ I always dreamt that one day you’d sing

to see how things are going. Oh, and of course, my publisher keeps me

Yep saw it last night when I was watching House, Idol is definitely smacking back after all the smack talk from the Voice and to a lesser extent X Factor. “Only American Idol produces real superstars” you tell em Idol LOL.

Last year Grammy winner Esperanza Spalding was not new also.
I thought she already has several albums by then and we have this same discussion.

I think it is still better than Country Music, ACM or one of the other award show where you can win the album or music from the album for several years running. That is even weirder, IMO.

Kidd Kraddick had a couple of his people do a backstage interview with Kelly at her Dallas show last week.  There weren’t any deep discussions happening in it but she does touch on the Super Bowl, her friendship with Blake and Miranda, mentoring on The Voice, having fun making the Toyota commercial (James Lipton kept making them practice the song before they filmed haha), and says that Clay will be a “surprise guest” and will be singing with her at an upcoming show.  Looking at her schedule, my guess that would be at the South Carolina or Atlanta dates.

Her Acapella is better than today’s Pop Star’s AutoTuned Pro-Tooled mess. Her album is just going to sound incredible. That voice is so pure and blue note. Gah! 

The novelty of a celebrity classmate wears off very quickly. If Jodie foster, Brooke shields, Claire Danes, Natalie Portman, Fred savage, Chelsea Clinton etc etc etc can all have relatively normal college experiences, so can Scotty McCreery. After 2 weeks no one will care that he is famous

I love that Haley’s voice is so distinctive and smokey.  I just hope that she’s going to record good material and is marketed in a direction that suits her.

Well, I think they only included the ones that are really well-known by most households.  People who don’t follow Idol like we do don’t even remember most of the ex-Idols, even if they watch the show.  In fact, a lot of the people I know didn’t even realize Jennifer Hudson and Daughtry were even from the show until I told them, they just know them from being on TV or the radio.  But try bringing up some of the other Idol names from years prior to S10 (that aren’t listed) to people outside the Idol bubble and most people won’t know who you are talking about.  That’s been my experience at least.

That picture of Kris…I assume it’s not a photo from the shoot, but just someone taking a candid shot as he poses for the actual photo? Whatever. I don’t know. Anyhow that’s a cool (sexy) pose, great look, a lot of star quality. That whole team working with him seems to be doing awesome work!

I don’t think too many people have never heard of some of the top 10 Idol best sellers and top 2 finishers from the first 10 seasons.

Ruben, Clay, Fantasia, Taylor, Katharine, Jordin, Dave Cook and Dave A. are household names and they are responsible for a very large chunk of those 314 hits and at least one of those 9 Grammys.

I agree with thirdtime.Other than Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and the Alabama “boys” most people I know don’t know Idol contestants or winners. Sure  they could name some of the more successful acts, but I highly doubt they would associate them with the show. (A few do, but most , no)

I probably would not know anyone before S7 outside of Taylor, Dianna, Bo, Ruben and Paul if I didn’t post here. I can guarantee my husband could not name a single person on the show.

That is an amazing picture of Kris. I saw the pics of the location and I am really curious how they are going to use the locale. Such a different type setting than from KATA. Between this great picture and the incredible music we just heard from Kris, the wait for this album is going to be tough.

The problem is that list on the screencap from the Idol ad really only includes the Idol alum who are currently very successful, and IMO “superstar” really only applies to Carrie, Kelly and perhaps Daughtry.  It’s too soon to regard Adam and Scotty as “superstars”, but they are the alums who most recently have been the most successful.  In my experience, none of the people you listed are “household names” (some of my relatives who watched Idol only remember the ones they hear on the radio).  They might have been known during their seasons and shortly after, but unless they transition from their Idol fans to the greater non-Idol public, they quickly are forgotten.

Exactly. That’s what makes him even hotter. Nothing more of a turn off to me than a guy who looks like he’s convinced he’s God’s gift to women. LOL.

Don’t think it matters what college he chooses, I would estimate their chances of finding out his alcohol tolerance is zero. 

Well, think it’s according to the audience you’re talking about.  Idol watchers will know them, but, even some of those in my family who watch it sometimes, are not really familiar with those you’ve named unless I remind them.  The average guy/gal, IMO, wouldn’t know them well, if at all.  Especially the young’uns.  And they wouldn’t buy their music either.

Yeah, before I got into Kris’s music and then into Idol through him, I only knew about Kelly, Carrie, Jordin, and Daughtry – and I didn’t know any of them had come from Idol! They were just singers on the radio to me.

But when I got into Kris’s music, it was only a week before the Idols Live tour was starting, so I learned all about the season and then got sucked into the show.

Why?  I could see Scotty having some beers/drinks and getting a bit blitzed, like so many college students do.  That would be pretty standard and nothing really noteworthy, even if someone did post a video.

ITA. First of all, “superstar” is hyperbole that arguably applies to none of them. LOL. Okay maybe Carrie sorta. Don’t get me wrong, Carrie and Kelly are famous and popular, but superstar is a bit much IMO. It depends on how you define the term I suppose. But that’s OK because it is an ad and they are supposed to hype stuff up.

On top of that, as far a “household names” from Idol… as you you say the name to the average joe who doesn’t watch the show and they’ll know who you are talking about… I’d say Carrie, Kelly, Daughtry, JHud, Clay Aiken oddly enough and Fanny of you are talking to someone who listens to R&B. Adam has some name recognition, Kat’s profile has risen because of “Smash” and country fans might recognize Kellie and Scotty. Maybe Jordin too? I’d be hard pressed to think of anyone else IMO.

But its an ad for an American TV viewing audience, so they probably picked the right names to be honest, since that list would encompass just about anyone whose been near a music chart in the last year or so.

Yeah, that term “superstar” is overused, and frankly to me, only truly applies to a handful of worldwide stars. But Idol evidently has a different meaning for “superstar”, since Ryan introduced Lee Dewyze as one on an Idol show last season. lol

I still think that there are very few Idol alums who are widely known long after their seasons.  TBH, if a “household name” is at the level of Whitney Houston or Britanny Spears, then I really don’t think that either Kelly or Carrie are at that level.  lol  To me, a “household name” for a singer transcends the tastes in music of the “household” and even non-fans have heard of these people.  So really, maybe none of the Idol alums are true “household names”.  lol
