Last night, David Archuleta sang the National Anthem prior to the football game at the Dublin Coffman High School in Dublin, OH. And by all accounts, things got, uhm, a little crazy.

A Stampede perhaps? Oh those craazee fans!

David Archuleta performs the National Anthem

Oh my goodness a stampede? That’s really scary! Oh man, settle down Archie’s let’s not hurt or scare the boy! Safety first people!

On another video, the guy announces him as “Your American Idol” and David quickly corrects him saying No, thats David Cook. Aww what a sweetie.

I think David’s camp should think twice about doing High School visits again. lol

  • cruzceleste

It was a beautiful rendition… the stampede was crazy, but it seems that nobody got hurt, I think David need a taller bodyguard and a better organization to these events…
ETA: I think that like the other events he had done this week, it was a radiostation that was in charge…I think it was WNCI….according to a fan story in FOD they were with David in the Hummer during the stampede at the event

  • LK08

When I heard he was doing something at a high school, I was nervous about security. I hope his management takes precautions next time to be sure he never gets hurt.

  • wordnerdarchie

    I agree with sabby-rina and LK08.

I think David shouldn’t do appearances at high schools at all, and at other events he definitely needs more security.

I also wondered as I watched his performance of the Anthem as to why they were still on the field. I distinctly heard thunder and where there’s thunder there’s usually lightening. I’d rather err on the side of caution where David is concerned. (However, my kids always thought I was too much of a worry-wart.)

  • sailormoon

He sang beautifully as always. However, I agree with everyone else, they definitely need to take better safety precautions, not only for David, but for the audience/fans as well.

  • soundscene

The security was not the best–they should have section off an exit that the people in the bleachers could get to. He was at the all-girl school earlier that day and everything was organized and fine.

But, anyway, gorgeous rendition, as usual!! I love his version of the NA.

A stampede? Yikes! They do need better security! Very lovely rendition of the NA though. :)

  • Aladdin88

Not very smart of the organizers to not have the adequate security on hand–what was the radio station thinking? I’m glad David came out okay, but I wish people would have been a little more well-behaved. So far, David’s been very accessible to his fans and all it takes is something like this to take that privilege away from everyone. I know, I know…trying to reason with squealing teenage girls is like trying to herd cats, but the alternative is that they get less David.

Oh, and the performance itself was beautiful, as always. David truly could sing the phone book and I know I’d be “mesmerized and hypnotized.”

Soundscene…..in case you’re around, I have a question you might be able to answer (I hope). I was looking on Amazon, and under David Cook they have his regular rating and under David Archuleta they have his regular rating. When you look down a little bit though, David A. shows a rating under “pop (vocal)” and nothing under plain pop. Whereas, David C has a rating under pop and nothing under “pop (vocal”). I guess I’m suprised DA isn’t rated for plain pop rather than this pop vocal thing. What the heck is the difference between pop and pop vocal anyway?? Do you know. I’m just curious (as usual), lol…….Thanks.

(I sure hope that made some sense)

  • elle

I was more concerned about them making him sing in the rain. The whole thing was crazy! You don’t take a beautiful and finely honed instrument like David’s voice out in the rain!

  • frogcooke

Yeah it was rainy and cooold.. that more concerns me than stampeding pre-teen fans girls gone wild..

  • soundscene

JudyOhio… I actually don’t know why Jive decided to place Archie in Pop (Vocal). He was under plain Pop before–I remember when that changed. I didn’t think much of it at the time, though.

There could be a few reasons. Possibly, because of the songs he performed on AI and the fact that he’s known for his vocals, that Jive thinks maybe people will search for him under that subgenre. I’m not altogether sure how many people actually search by genre in the first place, though. Or possibly they’re saving a spot for when he puts out more vocal-oriented music down the line.

Or… it could be Amazon that is categorizing and not Jive at all. I’m not sure how Amazon works that out with the labels.

I didn’t realize Cook was placed in the pop genre. For a long time his album wasn’t under any genre and he just showed up under “Music.” I think everybody is a little perplexed at his album and song consistently getting placed under “pop.” It should be rock–I believe Daughtry is under rock. Cook is no more pop than Daughtry. But if it is Amazon categorizing the artists, they could be going simply on the fact that he was on American Idol, which is considered a pop-oriented program.

So, in other words, I don’t really know. lol.

  • JudyOhio

lol, thanks for trying though soundscene. I guess I noticed it because I look at i-tunes best sellers under the general music chart and then I take a look at the i-tunes best sellers under the pop music chart. Therefore, I figured Amazon should be doing the same, but of course they are probably just confusing us…AGAIN. Amazon messes up a lot I’ve noticed! lol. Anywho, thanks for taking a look at it!

Pop vocal is a silly catagory. If it’s a pop tune, I would imagine it would have a vocal….right? (that is, unless there are pop instrumentals????)

  • soundscene

Pop (Vocal) tends to be the more vocal-oriented pop (I guess that’s a circular definition). In other words, it’s not Britney Spears or Rihanna. Not a lot of electronic sound and overproduction.
