The critic guy is well, critical to say the least. He hates everything. Including Elise! The crowd seems to be loving it though. Seems like a good crowd tonight, though that might be helped by the fact that it’s also DeAndre’s hometown.

  • justmefornow

Good luck to the A11 crew tonight.
(I’m posting here to give these guys some love and more importantly because the words “Adam Lambert” have given me a headache.)

  • lovesickheroine

HAHA lol that critic guy has a soft spot for Jessica.

  • Michael McRell

That critic guy said ‘who is better Jim James or Phillip Phillips’…who is Jim James???

  • raya

    Sweet from James:

    James Durbin

Yo @brackensickAI11 & the @AmericanIdol 11 crew!! Kick ass in San Jose tonight!! Home town crew loves you!! Loved playing that arena m/

  • lovesickheroine

I wonder what the critic guy thought of Skylar, Erika and Colton. He didn’t comment on those.  I still can’t believe he called Joshua “average”.

  • Veronica B. Lee

It is a shame that critic guy is getting paid for doing a reveiw and not making comments on nothing.

  • Anonymous

I saw Jessica was trending on twitter, saying how she stole the show in San Jose or some such thing.

  • raya

Here’s the review from that critic guy.  Yikes to say the least.  The only people that got positive mentions are Skylar, Jessica & DeAndre.  Though I’m trying to wrap my head around the fact that he finds Joshua unconvincing and doesn’t understand how Elise made the top 10.

  • tucker davis

Yeah, I tuned the critic guy out when he said Joshua was ‘only average’.
Guess he knew better than to diss the hometown boy…lol.
He sounded like he was ticked he wasn’t at the ballgame instead!

  • Michael McRell

Clearly he has his opinion…have to say that I don’t share it and I am sure that many others don’t either.  Not sure that you can say anyone is completely original & I think that is what he wants…Lady Gaga is just today’s Madonna etc.  I agree that Jessica is a powerful vocalist…so was Whitney, Mariah…why not the comparisons for her??  I think he is one of those guys who likes Dave Matthews and finds it offensive if someone takes inspiration from him….too each his own…he seems like a music ‘purist’. You know I am sure Dave Matthews modeled himself after someone. I remember a time when the Monkees were hated by many for modeling themselves after the Beatles….or Aerosmith for being too much like the Rolling Stones…It happens all of the time…how can it not???  There haven’t been many originals since Elvis and the Beatles, but even they took inspiration from someone… we just don’t know who they are…no You Tube back then. lol!  Even they were not completely original.  I don’t care…will still buy Phillips music if it is good…even if he is ‘like’ Dave Mattews!

  • grammamia

Huh? there isn’t any mention of Adam in the review..

Agree that Jessica is the star and while Phillip is personable there really isn’t anything special about his performances

  • Michael McRell

That is your opinion…and you are entitled…but I would pay money to see Phillip….not Jessica or any of the others on tour with him.  And, obviously people have a difference of opinion about what a ‘special performance’ is…for me I enjoy him more than anyone in a long time.  Obviously some people like the ‘big’ note singers…not my taste in music…I prefer the Billy Joels, Bruce Springsteen’s of the world…no big notes there…just a lot of passion.

  • Kesia Monteith

People with big notes can have a lot of passion as well.

And some of us like both the big note singers and many others as well. :)

  • Michael McRell

I agree….didn’t mean to say that the ‘big’ note singers aren’t talented…they clearly are…I can appreciate their talent.  But, if I am going to lay down my money and listen to it over and over…that is not where my tastes lie…I guess I just prefer Phillip….simply stated.

  • CanadianLady

    I like Phillip too.

Actually my favourite IDOL CD from anyone not named Scotty is Casey Abrams. And it’s definitely my husband’s favourite.

We’ll be buying Phillip’s too. But I also want to see what Hollie and Erika come up with. Really like their voices.

  • Linda Parish

I really enjoyed the show last night.  All ten of the Idols are very talented in their own way.  I did not care for the “dizzy” light show on most of the numbers but really enjoyed the songs.  So glad that it looked like it was almost sold out and that DeAndre performed in front of his hometown.  I wore my Kris Allen Thank You Camellia shirt to the show and received so many positve comments about Kris.

  • Kesia Monteith

Well, it’s not the matter that you said they are not talented, you mentioned about smaller voices that you listened to that deliver the passion in their music, and I’m saying that big voices can deliver a lot of passion as well. James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Janis Joplin, Aretha…big voices with a lot of passion to offer.

I don´t think  Phillip is like Dave . P.Ps voice is a lot deeper and more husky. And his gestures are lighter and he smiles more often, when he sings ( compare the You tube videos of “The Stone” from both.) And Phillip movements come from his feelings of his songs, not from Dave copiieng.
