X Factor’s Joe McElderry Wins UK’s Popstar to Operastar

Joe McElderry won the 2009 season of X Factor UK, but unfortunately, after lackluster sales of his post-X Factor music, Simon Cowell dropped him.  His last single with Simon’s company SYCO, “Someone Wake Me Up”, only sold 7, 000 copies.

A setback to be sure, but no worries! Not missing a beat, Joe picked himself up, dusted himself off…and auditioned for another competition reality show! And he won again.

Tonight Joe was crowned the winner of Popstar to Operastar.

Joe revealed this week he has signed a new record deal, and said on Sunday’s show that he hopes to continue singing opera.

“My voice has been refreshed. For a singer and for me that is just so exciting. This is not the end of opera for me. I will definitely sing more opera and who knows, lets see what happens.”

With new singing competition reality shows popping up all the time in the US, I wonder if a trend of failed winners going from show to show will start? I hope not.
