X Factor Winners Alex & Sierra Have Split Romantically, Professionally

Sad news. X Factor USA season 3 winners, duo Alex & Sierra, have split up. Their romantic relationship ended a year ago–a fact they didn’t share with friends at the time. But their professional relationship has now also come to an end. The two announced the news on twitter:

We may be artists but it seems the next words are some of the hardest we’ve ever had to write.

Many of you have been keeping up with us for years; you watched us go from two kids who met on the beach in Florida in 2009 to a couple who won a TV show and a released albums and toured the country. We’ve had an awfully magical time with each other and with you. Unfortunately things change a lot in 8 years, and though we didn’t tell the public, our romantic relationship ended over a year ago…. But as everyone does know, we’ve been best friends forever and really tried to keep A&S going. However, we’ve arrived at the place where it feels better to branch out rather than continue making music together.

This last album and tour were hard on our hearts. So thank you to anyone who ever watched videos of us, bought a CD, came to see us live, bought merch, or simply enjoyed the music and listened and shared with friends. No band lasts forever, whether they dated or not, but we will cherish every memory, and our love for you will most certainly last forever. We have a lot of love for each other and ALWAYS will, and we are real people behind the screen you’re looking at, so keep that in mind before you say anything and please respect our privacy. xx

Folk pop duo Alex Kinsey and Sierra Deaton were mentored by Simon Cowell when they won the final season of X Factor USA in 2013. Their debut album, It’s About Us was released in fall 2014.

Their last effort was an EP released independently in 2016. As Seen on TV mixed fan-favorite X Factor covers with original tunes.  While Alex & Sierra never took off in a big way after X Factor, they had a hard core following that loved the duo’s quirky covers and heartfelt originals.

It’s always dicey when romantic couples form musical partnerships. Just ask Fleetwood Mac. Or Sonny and Cher!

Good luck to both of them on their solo careers.
