X Factor UK S13E32 – Week 10 – The Grand Final – The Results

It’s the end of season 13 and it’s between Saara and Matt.

How to watch X Factor UK from outside the UK?

You can watch X Factor live, online. ITV streams the show through the ITV Player. However, ITV blocks viewers from outside of the UK. To get around that, you need to use VPN connection. If Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox is your preferred browser, install Hola extension and set them to UK server. Then open the ITV Player, make a free account and pick the right channel. The player will ask you for a ZIP code. Find an active UK ZIP code HERE. Make sure you have the cookies enabled. You can also try to find a working ITV stream on MyiPlayer.com, TVPC.com or FilmON.com.

The X Factor airs tonight at 8:00pm BST (9:00pm CEST, 3:00pm EDT, 12:00pm PDT) on ITV 1 (125min).

Saara Aalto and Matt Terry will both sing two songs tonight: their chosen song of the series and the winner’s single.

The winner’s single is reportedly an original song written by Ed Sheeran. We will see and hear how that turns out and in the next few days we will watch the song’s fate on iTunes, Spotify and radio. UK’s iTunes chart is currently being dominated by Louis Tomlinson and Steve Aoki and ZAYN and Taylor Swift. Can Saara or Matt compete with this company? On Spotify UK, Clean Bandit’s smash Rockabye and Mariah’s Christmas classic occupy the TOP 2 spots. Clean Bandit might just hang on to the overall #1 chart position on Friday.

I think Saara Aalto will likely win the show since she came into the final with more momentum. That said, she apparently isn’t that keen on winning, because she thinks the runner up has more freedom than the winner.

Little Mix, Madness and Kylie Minogue are also booked to perform on the X Factor tonight.

We are starting with a long intro and then we are live in Wembley. Dermot arrives on stage in an open red car with dancers.
It’s Bromley vs. HELLsinki (LOL, Dermot). He introduces the 4 judges. The vote is still open, we are 3,5 million votes in.

We are starting the show with a performance from pop icon Kylie Minogue. She is performing a cover of Rozalla’s “Everybody’s Free” from a re-release of her Christmas album. I remember Louisa Johnson performing this song on the show last season. Saara Aalto and Matt Terry join her on stage.

Time for a recap of last night’s show. “Song of the Series” round after the break.

Saara Aalto – It’s Oh So Quiet (Bjork)

Saara stands on the X Factor stage at Wembley, watches the original performance and speaks about her quirky side. Sharon says Saara “popped” with this song.
For the performance, Saara is on stage with a big pink skirt with a spider on it. The performance is again “Alice in Wonderland” themed. What can I say, Saara is good, but she belongs to the musical theater.
Louis says he gets excited every time she comes on stage. He says this show is about finding somebody who can sell records and that’s Saara. Nicole says it was explosive and fun. Simon says Saara came with a bonkers performance and that’s why he and everyone else loves her. Sharon thanks Nicole for picking Saara as her wildcard.
Rylan and Matt interview Saara’s supporters from Finland.

Matt Terry – Writing’s On The Wall (Sam Smith)

Like Saara, Matt watches the original performance on the big screen in Wembley arena.
Matt’s performance is also staged similarly to his original performance with golden lightning, which turns to blue and red. He looks very classy up on stage.
Louis says Matt has the voice of an angel and will have an amazing career no mater what happens tonight. Sharon also praises his voice and says she gets goosebumps. Simon says Matt is having a really strong final and points out he uses no gimmicks. He says Matt absolutely deserved to get this far. Nicole says she realized that Matt was the reason why she came back to the X Factor. Matt thanks all the judges, vocal coaches and everyone else working on the X Factor.

Commercial break.

Next, legendary British band Madness is performing on the X Factor. They are performing “Mr. Apples”, “Our House” and “It Must Be Love”. I think it lasted way too long.

Next, clips from the auditions. And a performance from the rejected hopefuls! They are singing “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now”. Disaster. And the show bosses wonder why the ratings are slipping.

Next, funny clips of the judges. Lot’s of highlights. Louis says his highlight was getting his job back.

We are up to 5,6 million votes.

Winner’s single round?

Matt Terry – One Day I’ll Fly Away (Randy Crawford)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3FHeQIH9EI
It’s a ballad! Sounds lovely. I think this is not an original. Nope, this is a cover.
Louis praises the song and Matt’s recording voice. Sharon says she loves him. Simon praises Matt and his desire to win. Nicole says he blew the roof off. Matt then gets a video of his family telling him that they love him.

Saara Aalto – I Didn’t Know My Own Strength (Whitney Houston)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yetE__GbyC8
It’s, it’s … a Whitney Houston song. Welp.
Louis calls her a global superstar. He thinks she is going to win. Nicole praises Sharon Osbourne. Simon congratulates Saara and says he feels privileged that she came on this show. Sharon praises Saara. She also gets a video from her family.

Were this the potential winner’s singles? Time for another recap.

Okay, it seems those weren’t the potential winner’s singles. Strange, usually both finalists perform their potential winner’s single. Perhaps the show bosses decided not to do that this year since they have an original song? But this will mean less exposure for the winner’s single in the end. And that song will need all the promo it can get.

Voting is closing in about 10 minutes.

Next, Little Mix are performing their new single “Touch” and another song “Oops” (feat. Charlie Puth).

The final 2 are waiting backstage. Dermot announces that the vote is now closed.

Results after the break.

Dermot explains Ed Sheeran wrote this year’s winner’s single and all the proceeds will go to two chosen charities.

Matt and Saara come on stage with their mentors.

The winner of X Factor UK S13 is Matt Terry! The homeboy has won it! Nicole Scherzinger is this year’s winning mentor.

Simon Cowell promises Matt on air that he is going to back him 100%. Saara is kinda happy to be second.

My Thoughts: Saara Aalto came into the final weekend with more momentum. Matt Terry hit the bottom 2 last week in a four way vote, Saara’s three bottom 2 appearances seemed history.
But then, looking at the song choices for this weekend, I think Matt/Nicole pretty much nailed it and Saara/Sharon didn’t. Or whoever picked the songs. Matt could only do better if he sang Adele last night instead of Jess Glynne. There was nothing vote grabbing about Saara’s song choices. Even “Bohemian Rhapsody” wasn’t a great pick for the duet, because they had to cut it too much. Meanwhile, Matt and Nicole slayed “Purple Rain”. Saara was the favorite at the bookies at the start of Saturday’s show and at the end the odds switched in Matt’s favour. Perhaps Saara really didn’t want to win. In the end, the country listened to Nicole and voted for their own.
