X Factor UK S11E05 – Arena Auditions

Better late than never.

This blog was down almost all day yesterday, so I couldn’t put up the regular X Factor post. I watched yesterday’s episode and made some notes in Microsoft Word anyway.

In other related X Factor S11 news, boot camp and judges’ houses round will have 3 episodes each. Apparently this year ITV has hectic Sunday schedule that doesn’t allow X Factor’s episode to be longer than 1 hour. Since both rounds need more air time, two extra episodes were added and both will be aired on a Friday, before the regular Saturday and Sunday episodes of boot camp and judges’ houses. Right now it looks like arena auditions continue next weekend and the first boot camp episode airs on Friday, September 26.

TELLYMIX: SPOILERS FOR TONIGHT

We are entering the second round of auditions tonight – arena auditions. They were filmed at the Wembley Arena. You will recogize many hopefuls from the previous 4 episodes, but there will be some new faces, too. 187 acts made it to to this stage.

Bradley Denholm – Let Me Entertain You (Robbie Williams)
Simon didn’t like his room audition. The guy is flamboyant … It’s a no.

Barabola Ehidiamen – It Will Rain (Bruno Mars)
It’s a no. He is boring and has no personality.

James Graham – I Can’t Make You Love Me (Bonnie Raitt)

Simon told him to like animals in his room audition. He is doing the Adele version of the song. He is pretty good and the audience is into him. I think he is getting through. Yup. Simon says the arena stage makes or breaks the singer and it made James. More positive comments from the other three judges. 4 YESes. I like him, but I think he would be more suitable for a boyband. He is not standing out in terms of vocals or looks.

Jale Antor – Crazy Stupid Love (Cheryl ft. Tinie Tempah)

Crazy Cheryl fan. Se is murdering Cheryl’s most recent hit. She even has something that is supposed to lok like Cheryl’s big rose tattoo on her back. She is reading the lyrics from a small paper again. People are amused. Cheryl says YES, Louis NO, Simon NO. NO.

The Courtesans – Delilah (Tom Jones)
http://youtu.be/Vz-rg8luPZM
Two long haired blonds, one male and one female. Both are 51, in a relationship with each other. The guy plays guitar and the lady sings. The audience likes the weird duo and the judges seem surprised at first, but then they start laughing, too. Louis says it was fantastic. Mel B says they were a gift that kept on giving. Cheryl says NO, the other three say YES.

Rebecca Jones – Moon River (Andy Williams)

18 years old, from Wales. She sang a weird cover of Dolly Parton’s »Jolene«. This time she is doing a new version of »Moon River«. Very weak vocals, Simon thinks she isn’t as good as others is her category. Simon says NO, Louis says YES, Mel B YES, Cheryl NO. It’s a NO.

Charlie Brown – All I Do (Stevie Wonder)

Simon isn’t impressed. Cheryl says NO, Louis and Simon put him through anyway.

Stevie Tennent – Feeling Good (Michael Buble)
HE IS ONLY 15! Decent vocals, but he doesn’t know how to perform to the audience. Cheryl thinks he isn’t ready, but the other three put him through anyway.

Paul Akister – Let’s Get It On (Marvin Gaye)

Poor Louis … He still says Paul wasn’t ready for the live shows last year. Simon isn’t having it. Paul nails it effortlessly. Simon is smiling. And now Mel B and Cheryl are giving Simon a lap dance. I think Paul is getting through. I actually think he is bound for the live shows. 4 YESes.

Lauren Platt – How Will I Know (Whitney Houston)

16, from Essex. Her parents separated and recently got back together. She is singing a slower version of the song. I think she copies this from Sam Smith’s cover. The audience loved it and judges too. Lauren is sailing through.

Indiana Ifill – I’m Going Down (Mary J Blige)
She is 18. It’s a NO.

Lou Bou – Pretty Hurts/Partition (Beyoncé)
She is wearing a rain coat and a hat. She has a black bodysuit underneath the coat. Simon says that in a real wold she would make a great stripper, but not a great singer.

Kieron Winter – Let Her Go (Passenger)
He can hold a tune, but can’t perform. It’s a NO.

Amy Connolley – Greatest Love Of All (Whitney Houston)

She was at Cheryl’s judges’ houses in season 5. She is now a mother of two. I don’t expect her to get to the judges’ houses this year because she simply isn’t good enough. Her audition tonight really pales in comparison with Whitney’s original. The song is too big for Amy. Bad song choice. Mel B says it was nice, but X Factor isn’t looking for just nice. Louis says it was karaoke cruise ship. Simon thinks Cheryl made the right decisin not to put Amy through to the live shows in season 5. It’s a no from Mel B and Louis. Cheryl gives her a YES and fights for her. The crowd wants her to get through. Simon says NO. Cheryl leaves the table to hug Amy before she leaves.

The End

As The X Factor continues to whittle down its long list of hopefuls, the show’s judges are lapping up all of the fun.

Talented teenagers make the X Factor even less exciting and cutting edge than ever
It was September 13th, the anniversary of Tupac Shakur’s death, 18 years since the magnetic, frenetic, rap icon was killed, in his prime, in Las Vegas.

Whether the X Factor would have honoured the occasion by making it ‘Hip Hop Week’ if it had been later in the series we will never know.

Well, we do.
