X Factor bosses desperate for Matt Terry to win this year’s show amid competition from The Voice
Matt and boyband 5 After Midnight are seen as more marketable than fellow semi-finalists Saara Aalto and Emily Middlemas
X Factor bosses who are determined to remain top dog are keen for Matt Terry to triumph in this year’s show, a source has told the Sunday People.

Favourites Matt, 23, and boyband 5 After Midnight are seen as more marketable than the other semi-finalists Saara Aalto, 29, and Emily Middlemas, 18.

The source also said commercial success is especially important because the X Factor is facing rivalry from talent show The Voice , which ITV has snatched from the BBC.

There are already signs of an impending fierce battle between the shows. The X Factor frequently tells their millions of viewers it is “the only show to consistently generate international stars”. It boasts of more than 40 No1 singles.

In comparison, The Voice, on in the spring, has struggled to produce a major chart success in the UK. Executives at Simon Cowell’s SyCo, which owns The X Factor, are already plotting ways to stay on top.

A source said: “Generating hits is the name of the game but this year it has taken on fresh significance for SyCo and the record bosses behind the show.

“They’ve been crowing about their history of chart successes but with The Voice about to start early next year it’s more important than ever.

“Frankly if Saara or Emily win it’s going to be a lot tougher to forge a long-term chart career.”

Currently bookies’ Ladbrokes make Matt the 8/11 favourite to be voted as winner.
