So long Gary… it’s Simon to the rescue: Barlow unlikely to return as Cowell plans X Factor overhaul
A so-called ‘nuclear option’ would see TV’s highest-rated programme stay off air until January 2013 to enable Cowell to ride in as the white knight once his commitments on the also under-performing U.S. version of the show are complete.

However, ITV is reluctant to move the show from the plum pre-Christmas market, where they make the most money from advertisements (yes, that’s the real reason behind the copious number of commercial breaks).

Another option is a U.S./UK job swap, which would see American judge Nicole Scherzinger and presenter Steve Jones moved to the British show. Kelly Rowland, who has strong reservations about returning to the panel here, could take the former Pussycat Doll’s place across the Atlantic.

I am told the chances of Gary Barlow returning next year are ‘beyond slim’. The Take That star has made it clear he had no idea of the personal and professional toll of being involved in The X Factor. Tellingly, Cowell has not publicly backed his replacement since the live shows began.

Contrary to reports, Louis Walsh has not signed for next year’s show and is considering whether now is the right time to bow out after seven years in the job.

Tulisa is the only judge who has made it clear she wants to come back and, given her popularity among young viewers, is considered the most likely to return.

Cowell’s dream scenario is for a Cheryl Cole comeback. But members of her circle assure me she has no desire to return to the ‘X Factor circus’ and intends to focus on her music career.

‘Once you’ve tasted fame, you never want to lose it’: Gary Barlow opens up about the drug called success and the pressure of being an X Factor judge
He may have had a successful career for over 20 years but Gary Barlow has revealed that he always wants more.

The 40-year-old Take That singer – who is currently leading the X Factor judging panel – compared himself to Elton John as she explained that seeking fame is a feeling that never goes away.

‘We’re chasing the buzz. It’s a little drug,’ he said.

‘And I think once you’ve tasted it, especially once you’ve tasted it a number of times, you never want to lose it. It’ll annoy my wife for years, that, but there you go.’

Speaking to Esquire magazine, the father-of-three opened up about his life in the spotlight and stated that he doesn’t take it for granted.

Why last year’s X Factor hopeful Gamu is glad she was abandoned by Cowell and Cheryl
Not once has Gamu Nhengu been seen to rejoice over the accusations of sleaze, strife and crisis which have engulfed this year’s series of The X Factor; she’s far too nice a person to kick Mr Cowell in the shiny white teeth when he is down.

But, in her own quiet way, it’s clear that she is having the last laugh.

Gamu was, of course, last year’s cannon fodder: everyone was astonished when Cheryl Cole sent her home at the judges’ houses stage in favour of her ‘mini-me’ Cher Lloyd.
