X Factor UK Headlines for 11/08/11

More about M&S X Factor Christmas ad (it will be edited every week as acts get eliminated), Frankie Cokeupthenozza kicked off the X Factor + this week’s theme!

This weekend’s theme on X Factor UK is: Lady GaGa & Queen. We are down to only 6 acts, so I wonder if each act will perform 1 song from Lady GaGa and 1 from Queen? Maybe not, since it’s likely the producers will bring one of the previously eliminated acts back (double elimination this past weekend wasn’t a great idea). On Sunday, Lady GaGa and One Direction will perform on the results show (1D also on the Xtra Factor!). I guess it’s too much to ask to bring Queen on the results show, too?

The M&X Factor: High street giant unveils Christmas TV ad campaign starring reality show finalists
Gearing up for the festive season, Marks & Spencer last night unveiled their latest coup – a minute long television advert featuring the 16 X Factor finalists.

One by one the ITV reality stars appear singing a contemporary version of When You Wish Upon A Star – a song originally written for the 1940 Disney film Pinocchio.

All are decked out in Gothic-inspired clothes from the M&S Christmas collection including pea coats, tailored suits, sparkling accessories and star patterned tights.

The deal – which is believed to be worth several million pounds to The X Factor – was drawn up between M&S, X Factor producers Free -mantle and Simon Cowell’s firm Syco following a series of meetings earlier in the year.

Frankie Cocozza to be edited out of M&S ad after being kicked off X Factor
Marks & Spencer moves swiftly to edit Frankie Cocozza out of Christmas TV advertising campaign
A spokeswoman for M&S pointed out that the TV ad was always designed to be edited as the X Factor show progressed – contestants were recorded singing extended parts of the song so they can be chopped and changed – in order to “keep the focus” on those that remain in the show.

On this basis boyband The Risk and Johnny Robinson, who were eliminated on Sunday night and also feature in the TV ad, will also be edited out of the commercial.
