Matt Cardle: I looked a right idiot on X Factor
Instead of signing exclusively to Cowell’s Syco Music, Matt entered into a joint venture with them and Columbia Records — unprecedented for an X Factor winner. And it paid off for the Essex lad, given freedom to make an album on his own terms.

He says: “Syco’s a very pop label and I know X Factor is quite pop, but I’m not pop.

“You’ve got people like Kings Of Leon, John Mayer and Bruce Springsteen on Columbia, as opposed to Syco where you’ve got your Cher Lloyds and your One Directions. Columbia is a real artist’s label.

Noel Gallagher to beat Matt Cardle in UK chart battle, predicts Amazon
Noel Gallagher is set to beat Matt Cardle to the UK album number one spot, Amazon has predicted.

The former Oasis star has accumulated 13% more pre-orders for his solo debut Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds than Cardle has for his new LP Letters.

“Matt Cardle’s album has been pre-ordering very well, but over the last few weeks we’ve seen a significant increase in demand for Noel’s debut post-Oasis effort, ” said Paul Firth, head of music buying at Amazon UK.

X Factor winner Matt Cardle’s new single is set to be beaten to the top spot by a song belted out by one of this year’s stars.

Biscuit factory worker Craig Colton wowed the judges on Saturday night’s shows with Christina Perri’s little known Jar of Hearts.

The original version has since shot up to number three on the charts.

One Direction: ‘Our debut album features Nicole Scherzinger anthems’
One Direction have revealed details about their upcoming RedOne collaborations.

The boyband explained that the Lady GaGa producer has worked on a few songs for their debut album and has given the record its club anthem moments.

Zayn Malik told the Daily Star: “It’s anthemic. We can’t say that enough times. To work with RedOne was such a big deal. It’s more like the sound he created with Nicole Scherzinger. Powerful.”

Singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has also penned a couple of tracks for the album and the five-piece joked they are keen to add him as their sixth member.

‘The X Factor’ charity singles – A retrospective
Yesterday, Simon Cowell took a break from his tiny X Factor side-project in the USA to announce the details of this year’s X Factor charity single.

Featuring all the finalists from the reality show, X Factor will be hoping that its cover of Rose Royce’s ‘Wishing on a Star’ can secure the show its fourth consecutive group number one and raise a whole load of wonga for ACT & Children’s Hospices.

X Factor contestant Janet Devlin has made the agonising decision to miss her grandfather’s funeral to continue in the competition this weekend.

The 16-year-old, the youngest wannabe left in the show, was told the devastating news that her grandfather Michael had died in Northern Ireland on Wednesday evening.

The remaining contestants in the ITV show rallied round the young singer at the Hertfordshire mansion they are staying in.

Kitty Brucknell and Johnny Robinson both sported outlandish stage costumes on their first X Factor live show and they look set to continue the antics if last night’s escapade was anything to go by.

Their mentor Louis Walsh treated his Over 25’s category, including Sami Brookes, to a night out a Priscilla, Queen of the Desert The Musical in London.

And the trio of contestants walked out of the Palace Theatre covered in brightly coloured feather boas and sunglasses.

Miss Brookes, 31, who is expected to perform a Whitney Houston song on Saturday’s show, said: ‘She’s driving me up the wall!’

The shop worker’s outburst comes as former contestant Jonjo Kerr said about Miss Brucknell: ‘Everyone in the house is f****** sick of her crying and moaning’.

They might have been booted off The X Factor after the first live show, but Amelia Lilly and Essex twosome 2 Shoes wiped away their tears for a taste of the showbiz lifestyle last night.

Lucy Texeria, Charley Bird, Jonjo Kerr and James Michael were all joined by The Only Way Is Essex cast for a VIP night out in London.

The reality TV stars were celebrating the Just Dance 3 launch party at Il Bottaccio restaurant and were all smiles despite having their dreams shattered on Sunday night’s results’ show.

AXED Amelia Lily puts on a brave face as she records the new X Factor charity single — Wishing On A Star.

The 16-year-old saw her own dreams of stardom dashed last weekend when her mentor Kelly Rowland gave her the chop.

But she refused to shrink into the shadows, and wore a see-through shirt to belt out the 1978 Rose Royce hit with the other 15 finalists.
