Idol Headlines for 10/14/11 – The Evening Edition

On Saturday, Carrie Underwood will visit her alma mater,   Northeastern State University, where she will ride in the homecoming parade, attend the football game and receive a distinguished alumnus honor during halftime.  “‘I’m gonna feel so stinkin’ old. I just know I am. It doesn’t feel like college is that far away, but I guess it was, ” she said. “I haven’t been back to Tahlequah in a while, so I’m excited.” (Via NewsOK)

Kelly Clarkson will perform on Tuesday’s Dancing with the Stars Results show! 9 pm ABC. She will sing “Mr. Know It All” and “Walk Away.” The latter will feature a dance performance by Mark Ballas, Sharna Burgess, Val Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd. On Monday’s performance show at 8 pm, it’s an 80s theme, with the Bangles performing some of their best-known hits.

CMT NAMES CASEY JAMES “NEXT BIG THING”

NASHVILLE, TN – BNA Records artist and Cool, TX native, Casey James’ debut video, “Let’s Don’t Call It A Night” premiered today on CMT’s “Big New Music Weekend.” The three day event showcases new videos from some of the biggest artists in country music and they named newcomer Casey James as the “Next Big Thing.”

On the big weekend James said, “It’s a huge honor to be included with these great artists and be a part of the new music weekend. It’s an exciting way to get the music heard and seen and reach new people. My phone has blown up today with texts from people who saw the video today!” I had a great time shooting the video, ” he continued. “The fact it’s my very first one is a huge deal for me.”

Co-written by Casey along with songwriters Terry McBride and Brice Long, “Let’s Don’t Call It A Night” is his debut single and is climbing the charts. The song is available at all digital retailers.

Carrie Underwood Helps Build New Playground For Checotah School

CHECOTAH, Oklahoma — Country music star and Checotah native Carrie Underwood and her C.A.T.S. Foundation joined with more than 200 volunteers Friday to build a new playground at Marshall Elementary School in Checotah.

The design for the new playground was based on drawing submitted by students back in August.

Underwood established the C.A.T.S. Foundation or Checotah Animal, Town, and School Foundation in 2009 to help with general causes, needs, and services in the Checotah area.

‘Idol’ David Cook taking his time

Cook, who will perform at the Wells Fargo Center for the Arts on Oct. 20 along with Gavin DeGraw, knows those dates will forever be included in his biography. He also knows that the nearly three-year span between records was both good and bad as far as a career move. Was it too long?

“I don’t know how to answer that, ” he said in a recent phone interview from Los Angeles. “Maybe in the context of coming out of the gate all guns blazing, sure it was. But I don’t think I could have made this record any other way. I think this record needed to take this long and this is the record I wanted to make. The record I wanted to put out.

‘Glee’ Star Amber Riley Joins Singing Divas

Amber Riley’s Glee character Mercedes Jones is no stranger to fierce diva style and now Amber is getting the chance to take the stage with some of her award-winning peers to raise money for AIDS.

Amber has been added to the lineup for the 21st annual Divas Simply Singing, an AIDS benefit concert taking place Saturday, October 22 in Los Angeles. The star-studded event — organized by actress and activist Sheryl Lee Ralph — will include performances by Grammy-winner Bonnie Pointer, R&B singer Kelly Price, hip-hop artist Yo-Yo and Frenchie Davis from NBC’s The Voice.
