Happy Birthday Niall Horan! One Direction’s only Irish bandmate turns 18 today. I think I know what his birthday present will be … #1 single in the UK and Ireland. How old are the other boys? Louis is 19, Zayn and Liam are 18 and Harry is 17.

The Official Charts Company reports: 14/09/2011 – One Direction on course to score fastest-selling single of the year

“What Makes You Beautiful” mid-week (two days) sales:
Buzzjack forum mid-week report:

The big news on singles is the debut single from Syco act and former X Factor finalists One Direction with What Makes You Beautiful having already sold 82, 785 copies so far this week. Its accompanying track Na Na Na is registering on Tuesday’s sales flashes as a new entry in third place with the group’s two songs separated by A&M/Octone/Polydor’s Moves Like Jagger by Maroon 5 featuring Christina Aguilera in second spot.

The posters mention “Na Na Na” sold 20K copies or so. They also say the b side will be removed from the chart tomorrow and it’s sales will be added to the main track. It looks like One Direction outsold Cher Lloyd’s first week sales (66K) in two days.

One Direction interview: ‘We’re nervous over number one single’
If we had to pinpoint a moment when Nicole Scherzinger seemed destined for a job on The X Factor USA, it would probably be the moment she “discovered” One Direction on last year’s UK series.

Nine months after finishing third place and their ever-growing fanbase remains as loyal as ever; making their debut single ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ the most pre-ordered download in Sony Records’ history.

With said track unsurprisingly riding high on the iTunes chart, we caught up with the boys to find out about their plans to celebrate their chart success, finishing their debut album and the official word on the group’s vainest member.

Exclusive: One Direction: ‘Revisiting X Factor studio was surreal’ – video
One Direction have described their recent visit to the X Factor studio as “surreal”.

The group, who revisited the set before their performance on last week’s Red Or Black?, revealed that it felt “weird” returning to the studio a year after taking part in the competition.

Niall Horan told Digital Spy: “Our first day back at Fountain studios… it was so surreal and weird.”

Liam Payne added: “It smells the same, which is the strangest thing. It smells of… smell.”

One Direction celebrate Niall’s 18th birthday on ‘Daybreak’, talk debut album sound
One Direction have said that they have worked to “define” their own sound for their debut album.

The boyband rose to fame on last year’s series of The X Factor, on which they finished third, losing out to Rebecca Ferguson and Matt Cardle. The group – Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik – released their first single ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ on Sunday.

One Direction – we’re just five normal lads who can’t dance and don’t have six-packs
THEIR first single comes out today – yet One Direction already have a global fanbase of hysterical teenage girls.

Download pre-orders for the track What Makes You Beautiful have smashed all previous records, pushing international superstars such as Beyoncé and Katy Perry into the shade.

One girl flew 8, 000 miles round the world to catch sight of them at an airport. And last week groupies gatecrashed a hotel black-tie gala just for a glimpse of the five boys. Comparisons with Beatlemania are not that far-fetched.

All of which has left the X Factor protegés utterly bemused… but, frankly, loving it.

One Direction lads are on the move
MOST 18-year-olds are still living with their parents or moving in to student digs, where finding a clean fork is considered a luxury.

But as their debut single is released, the One Direction lads are set to settle in to swanky London flats.

Simon Cowell has sorted the boys out with an apartment each in their own private block — except for youngest member Harry Styles and the group’s caner Louis Tomlinson, who will share.

Idolator: Susan Boyle Is Pretty In Purple On ‘Someone To Watch Over Me’ Album Cover

‘People work their whole lives for your talent, that was amazing!’ 16-year-old Amelia wows X Factor judges as they agree ‘a star is born’
She might only be 16-years-old but one X Factor contestant has impressed the judges so much it seems they are all vying to mentor the Girls category.

In fact teenager Amelia Lily’s performance of Janis Joplin’s A Piece of My Heart – which was originally a hit for Erma Franklin in 1968 – left judge Gary Barlow stating that she was exactly the reason that he has signed up for the X Factor.

He gushed: ‘Oh my Goodness, 16-years-old that was incredible. That absolutely lifted the top off this arena, well done. Amazing vocals. Amelia I am blown away.’

‘X Factor’ Samantha Brookes interview: ‘I nearly weed myself after Kelly Rowland’s comments’
Have you recovered from the double bill of X Factor auditions this weekend? The two episodes were positively crammed with talent, so we don’t envy the judges having to pick who gets through Boot Camp. One of the definite standouts from the weekend was barmaid Samantha Brookes, who impressed the panel with her rendition of ‘One Moment In Time’.

We thought it was time to have a chat with Samantha, so we gave her a ring to find out how she’s feeling after appearing on the show, why she likes Louis (“he’s a bit dippy”), and why she walked out of an X Factor audition a couple of years ago…
