Little Mix fly to Number 1 with Wings! Don’t miss Standard’s article about One Direction!

Congratulations to Little Mix! Last year’s X Factor UK winners debuted at #1 with their single “Wings”. After their coronation cover “Cannonball”, this is their second #1 single.

Little Mix fly to Number 1 with Wings
Little Mix make a return to the top spot on the Official Singles Chart today, as new single Wings racks up 107,000 sales, toppling last week’s chart topper Sam & The Womp’s Bom Bom (2) to help them to their second Number 1 since winning X Factor 2011.

“Wooh! Number 1! We want to thank all the Little Mixers who went out and bought the single. You’ve made all our dreams come true” said Little Mix. “It means a lot because obviously we got a Number 1 at Christmas with Cannonball, but that wasn’t OUR song really, so now that we’ve become Number 1 with our own song that we wrote, we’re so proud, best feeling ever. Continue to listen to it and dance away in your bedrooms in your pants!”

They look Supreme! Little Mix ditch their trainers and channel their Sixties pop heroines for sexy shoot
Little Mix might be the most exciting girl band of today, but the X Factor winners have invoked the spirit of original sixties girl groups for a new magazine spread.

The young pop stars who are currently on the promo trail for their debut single Wings, made a departure from their normal colourful attire for a black and white sixties style shoot for fashion magazine, Fiasco.

Going back to the roots of pop music, the four girls went all retro, styling themselves in the image of sixties icons The Supremes and The Shangri-las.

Holy cow, Batman! Little Mix’s Jesy Nelson shows off newly-slim figure as she takes inspiration from Cheryl Cole in comic book dress
She’s been working hard to lose weight, and wanted to choose an outfit to perfectly showcase her newly-slim figure.

So today (Tuesday), Little Mix star Jesy Nelson decided to take style inspiration from someone who is never afraid to push the fashion boundaries, as she stepped out in an eye-catching dress recently sported by Cheryl Cole.

The 20-year-old singer certainly turned heads in the £60 Lazy Oaf for ASOS dress, which features black spots and batman logos over the long-sleeved, minidress design.

A dodgy all-in-one and green jogging bottoms! Little Mix suffer from a serious fashion fail as they perform in Blackpool
They’re known for their love of leather jackets and chunky boots, but tonight Little Mix got it terribly wrong when it came to their style.

The girl band made an appearance at the Blackpool Illuminations Switch On show, where they performed their single Wings, but their fashion was a sight for sore eyes.

Not only did they look mismatched, Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall looked like they could have been going to the gym rather than performing to their fans.

One Direction revealed their sophomore album’s cover. Lead single “Live While We’re Young” hits radio no sooner than September 24th.

Toy boys… the unstoppable rise of One Direction
One Direction have cracked America and Hasbro has even turned them into dolls. Gideon Spanier talks to Simon Cowell about the unstoppable rise of his fab five
The music mogul who created the band is surprised at how fast it has happened. “I haven’t seen a worldwide reaction like this to a group for a very long time — this is not standard, this reaction,” says Simon Cowell with a smile. “If we’d been having a conversation two years ago, I wouldn’t have said we’re going to debut at number one in America. That would have been ridiculous.”

Most people could be forgiven for assuming that 1D is yet another formulaic band to have been produced by Cowell’s hit factory Syco, the record label and TV firm behind X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent. The boys were very young, aged between 16 and 18, when they appeared on X Factor, and Cowell is very hands-on in every corner of his media empire. 1D certainly could not have risen so fast without Syco, based in the offices of music giant Sony in Kensington.

“If you include Il Divo, Five and Westlife, three groups we’ve worked with, they’ve sold just under 100?million albums, so we didn’t go into this as amateurs,” concedes Cowell.

He says the 1D success story is a “team effort”. That 35-strong team at Syco includes managing director Sonny Takhar, one of his closest lieutenants for 15 years, creative director Tim Byrne, X Factor TV executive producer Siobhan Greene, and X Factor vocal coach Savan Kotecha, as well as two external agencies, Modest Management and PR firm Hackford Jones.

But Cowell and his inner circle insist the rise of 1D is about more than just the Syco “machine”. They say the five boys — all of them British apart from Horan, who is Irish — have been passionate about their sound and their identity from the start. “Intelligent” and “polite” is how Cowell describes them. “Everything we did was done with their support because they’ve got taste and they knew what they wanted to be.”
