REVIEW: X Factor tour at Echo Arena
It’s so, so, slick. Your fearless correspondent took his seat – accompanied by his wife and their two young excuses – at 7.30 and barely two hours later he’d been treated to 38 songs by eight acts, all reprising some of their greatest hits from last year’s instalment of the prime time juggernaut you all pretend to hate.

As befits a format devised by TV execs rather than musicians, it jumps around from act to act in order to keep the energy up among the impatient audience. This has its benefits. The opening acts are bouncy boyband 5 After Midnight (getting the mandatory Uptown Funk out of the way first up) and breathy chanteuse Emily Middlemas, both musically competent and engaging, but not who the kids have come to see.
