X Factor UK Headlines for 09/27/13

First reviews of Rebecca Ferguson’s new material, new music from JLS.

How is Rebecca Ferguson’s new album shaping up? Review
Earlier this week, we were invited to watch Rebecca Ferguson perform a selection of new songs from her new album Freedom, which comes out later this year.

As you may already be aware, we were quite taken with her debut record Heaven for its clever blending of soul and pop without sounding dated or mumsy.

But what does Rebecca have to say about her next offering? “Since the release of Heaven, so much has changed in my life,” she says. “I feel like I’ve learned more in the past two years than in the rest of my life put together and this is reflected in the music on this record.

“I’ve put my heart and soul into it. If it’s passionate, vulnerable, soulful and raw that’s because everything I’ve gone through when making the record has driven the music and lyrics. I’m not someone who can just go into a studio at any time and just create ?- I need drama and passion.

Olly Murs, In America
British singer Olly Murs despises sweaty handshakes and has a penchant for pork pie hats. He purchased his first hat—or “two for 12 quid”—before his audition for television talent contest The X Factor. “I thought a straw hat would look quite cool,” he tells us. “It was probably the best thing I ever bought.” Worn with a boyish grin, they are now his signature—an appropriate accompaniment his sunny pop songs.

The X Factor was Murs’ entrée into the music world. Before auditioning, Murs lived with his parents just outside of London in Essex, worked in an office, and sang in a covers band. “We used to sing Oasis, a bit of Ne-Yo, Usher, Kings of Leon,” the 29-year-old recalls. “Anything that was remotely cool and people would sing along to, that was kind of our vibe.” As a child, Murs wanted to be a professional soccer player. “I wanted to be David Beckham,” he says. “I was never good enough to but that was what I wanted to do.” It was only after a knee injury that singer reconsidered. His first public performance was on a karoake machine at his local pub, The George. By the time he stepped onto The X Factor stage to sing Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition,” he was fixed on a new career path: “To be a pop star, be famous, sell records, and be an international superstar.”

James Arthur has explained the reasons behind the delay of his new single.

The star’s first single proper ‘You’re Nobody ‘Til Somebody Loves You’ has yet to be serviced to radio as the X Factor winner is currently too unwell to promote it.

“Unfortunately we had a setback in release dates and when the song would go to radio because I got an infection on my vocal cords,” Arthur explained in a behind the scenes video.

“I can’t perform to my maximum ability and that unfortunately pushes promo and stuff like that back.”
