X Factor auditions will begin on Wednesday after a two-day break following the death of Simon Cowell’s mother.
Simon’s mother, Julie, died on Sunday at age 89.
Auditions were originally scheduled to begin in Manchester on Monday, but were cancelled in the wake of Julie’s death.
“We can confirm that The X Factor auditions scheduled for Tuesday have been canceled,” said a spokesman for Syco Entertainment on Monday. “We will now start auditions in Manchester on Wednesday and Thursday this week.”
Simon will attend the auditions on both days, after the cancellation of Monday’s and Tuesday’s auditions.
Fellow judges Rita Ora, Nick Grimshaw and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini are expected to attend, as well as new hosts Olly Murs and Caroline Flack.
“Anyone who had met her would know what a truly special and kind lady she was.” said a statement released by the family on Sunday. “We are heartbroken and will miss her terribly, but she is now at peace.”
A spokesman for the family added: “We would like to thank the media for kindly respecting Julie’s privacy throughout and we politely request continued privacy for the entire family at this particularly difficult time.”
For a workaholic like Simon, getting back to work is probably the best therapy for grief. Again, condolences to Simon and his family for their loss.
UPDATE: Simon Cowell thanks fans’ for their condolences.
My family lost someone very special on Sunday. My Mum. I am overwhelmed with gratitude for all of the kind messages received. Thank you. X
