The 2013 X Factor UK winner, Sam Bailey, has been dropped by Simon Cowell’s record label, Syco. A source told The Sun: “Music is a tough business. Simon realises most X Factor winners have a short shelf life.”

A spokesman confirmed Sam was no longer with the label to the paper, adding: “Sam Bailey is no longer with Syco.”

A Syco source told MailOnline: ‘Everyone wishes Sam all the best for the future. After discussion, it was just felt it was the right time to follow different paths.’

After winning X Factor, Sam hit #1 with her debut single “Skyscraper.” Sam’s first album, The Power Of Love, sold 72,644 copies in its first week and became the fastest selling album at the time, before going on to be certified Gold.

Sam, currently touring, tweeted to a concerned fan, “I’m happy , If I stayed with syco I would probably be doing another cover album and I don’t want that!!”

A 36 year old mom of two at the time of her win (she would have her 3rd child this past November), her big voice was pleasing, but old fashioned.  Excelling at Whitney and Mariah type ballads, her vocal talents didn’t off much in the way of pop chart potential. It wasn’t surprising that Simon had the singer record an album of covers. He was probably hoping for success similar to that of BGT winner, Susan Boyle.

Sam has also released an autobiography, and has her sights set on a sting with Strictly Come Dancing, which is the blueprint for the American version, Dancing With the Stars.
