Former ‘American Idol’ contestant pleads guilty to grand larceny – Former “American Idol” contestant and Beaufort resident Haley Davis was sentenced to probation and time served after pleading guilty to grand larceny Wednesday, according to Beaufort County court records. Davis was charged in August after she stole a Collins Pest Control truck worth $35,000, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office. Davis was a contestant on season 12 of “American Idol” — the same season St. Helena Island native Candice Glover would win — and advanced to the Hollywood round of the show. – Read more at Island Packet.com
‘American Idol’ contestant visits Pleasanton Middle – Pleasanton’s very own American Idol contestant Maddy Hudson visited Pleasanton Middle School Friday to spread her message about anti-bullying. Hudson, a victim of bullying while in middle school at a different district, encouraged students to speak up when they see bullying, to consider why bullies do what they do and that all students can support each other to stop negative behavior. “Maddy’s message is one of hope, encouragement and staying true to your dream,” said Nicole Steward, coordinator of communication and community engagement. – Read more at Pleasantonweekly.com
A guitar donation from Carrie Underwood could help save an Oklahoma deputy’s canine partner. – The Muskogee Phoenix reports Underwood donated an autographed guitar to help pay the medical bills of a McIntosh County Sheriff’s Department K-9 officer. Underwood is a native of the Oklahoma city of Checotah. Deputy Kevin Branscum has partnered with the German shepherd named Gino since 2012. He has spent around $4,000 since December for medical care after the privately owned service animal was infected with heartworms.
