UPDATE: Sources tell EW that Mariah Carey will join Simon Cowell on X Factor US in some capacity to mentor the contestants:
A show insider told EW, “Mariah and Simon are great friends, and now [that] she has had her babies, it’s very possible that she will be involved [in] some way in the later stages of the show. She has always said she wanted to work with the show, so it’s something they will certainly be discussing ideas for soon.”
The Daily Star is reporting that Mariah Carey will assist Simon Cowel on X Factor in a role held by his ex-galpal Sinitta on the UK version:
Simon Cowell, who’s now working on the American version of the hit programme, has decided to drop his ex-girlfriend as his helper this year.
Instead he is set to hire pop diva Mariah Carey, 41, to assist him in choosing his acts for the finals of The X Factor USA.
Most of my American readers have no idea who Sinitta is. She’s a UK recording artist and actress who once dated Simon. Like he is with most of his exes, Simon and Sinitta have remained friends.
The Star reports that having had the role for seven years on the UK show, Sinitta was hoping to be asked to appear on the US version.
“Well, let’s just say feathers will fly if Mariah takes my spot, ” Sinitta is quoted as saying, “Although she is a mega diva vocally, you can expect another XF USA drama. I won’t just roll over and take it. I hope she can run in high heels.”
While the drama is probably completely manufactured, Mariah could end up on X Factor US in some capacity, as Simon has already said that he’s discussed the possibility with her.
Simon is reportedly “jetting to a stately mansion in the UK for the “judges’ homes” stage of the competition on The X Factor USA this summer.”
