American Idol Top 10 contestant, Dexter Roberts, has disappeared from the American Idol Live tour. Nobody knows why.
He hasn’t performed on stage with the Idols since at least July 1. The last mention of Dexter on tour is a tweet that references the June 28 concert in Orillia, ON Canada. He’s missed three shows at least with NO mention from the promoters–not even an announcement before the show (which is the usual protocol when an Idol misses a concert.)
Even more curious: Three days ago, the World Deer Expo, taking place later this month in Birmingham, advertised an appearance by Dexter:

July 18-20 is smack dab in the middle of the tour, with dates scheduled each of those days in the state of Florida.
Additionally, Dexter was spotted at a local Alabama church THIS MORNING. A parishioner from the Church of the Highlander tweeted that it was “Nice running into Hubbertville boy and American Idol Dexter Roberts at Church of the Highlands today!”
The American Idols are performing TONIGHT at Wolf Trap in Vienna VA, approximately 728 miles away.
Dexter doesn’t look ill. Or even unhappy. Why isn’t he on tour with the rest of the Idols? Why is he making outside appearances while he’s supposedly still under contract to 19? Was he kicked off the tour? Did Idol let him out of his contract after he asked to leave?
Or maybe he’s having vocal issues? Remember, when Katharine McPhee missed the first 3 weeks of concerts during the Season 5 tour, she was spotted out and about with her boyfriend. She wasn’t sick. Just unable to sing and on vocal rest. But if he were on vocal rest, wouldn’t he be expected to return to the tour eventually? Certainly he wouldn’t be making personal appearances if he needed to rest his voice.
What makes this oddest of all is the complete silence around his absence. Idols miss tour dates. Usually every year there’s at least one or two absences. They are always announced by the PA before the concert begins. In Dexter’s case, he’s simply disappeared, with the set list rearranged to cover his absence.
Dexter hasn’t tweeted since June 24 (to be fair, he wasn’t an active twitter participant) and his fellow Idols have not mentioned him. At all. And you know fans are tweeting them, asking where he is.
So, again, I ask…
Where in the world is Dexter Roberts? The mystery continues…
ETA: I’m hearing from concert goers on twitter that when they ask the Idols where Dexter is, they are told that he was sent home due to illness.
Here’s how Jessica Meuse responded to a fan on twitter asking why Dexter left the tour, “@TheJeffDodge Dexter is unfortunately dealing with an illness, and we aren’t sure when he will be back.”
My question: If Dexter is sick, why did he recently book that hunting show appearance in Birmingham scheduled for next week?
