American Idol’s Justin Guarini performs “Circus” and “Crazy” with cast of Britney Spears musical Once Upon a One More Time

Justin Guarini and the cast of Once Upon a One More Time performed at Times Square Tuesday morning (July 18) for a performance of “Circus” on Good Morning America.

The musical, powered by the music of pop icon Britney Spears, is currently running on Broadway at the Marquis Theatre. Fully authorized and licensed by the singer, post-conservatorship, the musical weaves Britney’s chart-topping hits, including “Oops I Did It Again,” “Lucky,” “Circus,” “Toxic”, and more, into a story that re-imagines favorite childhood fairytales.

The American Idol season 1 runner-up plays the role of Prince Charming. Watch him perform Britney’s hit “Circus” below.

In an interview with GMA before performing another number, “Crazy,” Justin said of opening night, which took place last month, “It’s a party every night in the audience. Not only to have our family, but so many of the creative people, it was just hands down one of the best experiences I’ve ever had.”

Britney Spears pop hits powers reimagined fairy tales.

When Cinderella, Snow White, and other storybook heroines gather for book club, they always discuss the same book, Grimms’ Fairy Tales — because as far as they know, it’s the only book that’s ever been written. That is, until a rogue fairy godmother drops The Feminine Mystique into their laps. From now on, “happily ever after” will never be the same.

Leading the Original Broadway Cast of the musical are Briga Heelan (“Great News”, “Ground Floor”) as Cinderella, Justin Guarini (“American Idol”, Wicked) as Prince Charming, and Aisha Jackson (Frozen, Paradise Square) as Snow White, reprising the roles they originated in the world premiere production of Once Upon a One More Time, which played a sold-out, extended engagement last year at the Tony Award-winning Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC), in Washington, D.C.

On opening night last month, Britney wished the cast good luck in a social media post: “Good luck to the hardworking cast and crew of “Once Upon a One More Time” on opening night tonight!!!” she wrote. “I’ve seen the show and it is so funny, smart and brilliant!!!”

Once Upon a One More Time marks Justin’s return to Broadway after stints in American IdiotWomen on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, and Wicked. Recent projects from Justin include playing the hilarious “Lil’ Sweet” in a series of ads for the soft drink, Dr. Pepper. He’s also the voice of Cat Burgler in the animated children’s SuperKitties for Disney Junior.
