WATCH: American Idol’s Gabby Barrett Drops “I Hope” Music Video

Gabby Barrett I Hope Music Video

American Idol finalist, Gabby Barrett’s Carrie Underwood-inspired new song “I Hope” now has a music video. In it, the singer walks vividly describes a revenge fantasy about a lover who cheated on her.

I hope she comes along and wrecks every one of your plans
I hope you spend your last dime to put a rock on her hand
I hope she’s wilder than your wildest
dreams, she’s everything you’re ever gonna need

And then I hope she cheats
Like you did on me
And then I hope she cheats
Like you did on me

The video walks the viewer through a full circle experience, and that’s all I’m going to say about that! You gotta watch the video below for the full story. In a short clip, Gabby explains how the song came about.

I wrote ‘I Hope’ with Jon Nite and Zachary Kale some super talented guys that I absolutely love to death.” Gabby explains that at first the trio came up with a song about a girl wishing her ex well after a break up. “We sat around and thought about it and came to the idea of a song about a guy and a girl who didn’t work out. But the girl still wishes him well even [though] he’s moved on.”

But Gabby insists, “That’s not how girls really think. We’re really like–I hope she ends up cheating on you because you did me wrong. I wanted it to be the things that we never say. For it to be that kind of song that empowers girls when they hear it.”
