American Idol alum and Queen frontman Adam Lambert plays That’s My Jam, the hourlong music and comedy variety game show based on popular Tonight Show games. Jimmy Fallon hosts.
In a special preview clip, Adam sings the nursery rhyme “The Muffin Man” as Cher in “Wheel of Musical Impressions.” In the game, Jimmy spins a wheel that has two columns. One column includes nursery rhymes, the other the names of popular musical artists. The wheel “randomly” matches a rhyme to a singer. And in Adam’s case, he is challenged to sing “The Muffin Man” in the voice and style of Cher.
The band fires up a melody very similar to Cher’s “Believe” before Adam joins in with the lyrics “Do you know the muffin man, muffin man” which he sings many times over. His impression of Cher is impressive! He gets into the spirit of the song–waving his arms and working the mic stand.
“Cher would be very proud”
After, Jimmy exclaims, “How do you do that? How do you make that good?” he adds, “Cher would be very proud!”
Adam is a huge Cher fan. A few years ago he sang “Believe” for Cher at the Kennedy Center Honors. Adam’s slowed up and emotional version of the song moved the iconic songstress to tears. She’d probably cry watching “The Muffin Man,” but it would be tears of laughter instead, in the best possible way.
Adam Lambert and Halle Bailey play against Simu Liu and Chloe Bailey to win money for their favorite charities. The episode airs Monday night (April 17) at 10 pm after The Voice on NBC.
Each episode of That’s My Jam features two teams of two celebrities competing for a charity of their choice in a series of music, dance, and trivia-based games and musical performances. Signature games to be played include Launch the Mic, Air Guitar, Don’t Drop the Beat, Perfect Mash-Up, Wheel of Impossible Karaoke, Slay It, Don’t Spray It and many more.
New games for season two include Turn the Beat Around, a musical charades-style game where celebs dance out clues on a giant spinning turntable while their partner guesses the name of a song; Don’t Fear the Speaker, a team game where celebs alternate singing songs using only ridiculous words for their partners to identify; Drawing a Blank, a virtual reality-based game where celebs attempt to draw out music-based clues for their partners to guess; More Than a Feeling, a musical take on the popular “Tonight Show” game Can You Feel It?; and Bop Quiz, “That’s My Jam’s” music-based retro trivia game.
