Well, this is a nice perk for Javier Colon. Remember him? He won the first season of The Voice. He’s set to play Ray Charles in the The Playboy Club a new NBC show which portrays the lives of Playboy bunnies in the 1960s. (Via Billboard)
Javiar will sing “Let the Good Times Roll” in an upcoming episode.
The show producers plan to stunt cast a famous performer from the era with contemporary music stars. Raphael Saadiq portraying Sam Cooke singing “We’re Having a Party” and Colbie Caillat playing Lesley Gore performing “It’s My Party” are the first guest stars of the series. In the pilot, which airs Sept. 19, Karen Le Blanc plays Tina Turner performing “Shake a Tail Feather” and “Tina’s Wish” with Ike and the Ikettes.
Producers are currently looking for singers to portray James Brown and Roy Orbison in upcoming episodes. They are also looking to eventually cast a Frank Sinatra.
Taking a page from the Glee playbook, songs recorded for the show will be posted for sale on iTunes.
