The Voice Season 7 Top 10 Power List

This season of The Voice is All About the Boys. With only 4 girls remaining after two were eliminated in the first week of the finals, the guys dominate the Top 6. I can’t remember The Voice finals ever having such a weak slate of girls.  Also: Team Blake and Team Adam pretty much rule at this point.

Nevertheless, it’s a guy who takes the last spot in my Top 10 power list! What’s yours?

10. Ryan Sill – Team Gwen Stefani  – Last week, America saved Ryan via the Twitter save. The week before THAT in the Live playoffs, his coach Gwen rescued him from extinction. Has Ryan lived his 9th life?  Unless he comes out with a game changing performance, I think so.  Ryan is outclassed by nearly everyone in the competition at this point, in both vocal ability and star power.

9. DaNica Shirey – Team Pharrell Williams – DaNica fared much better than I thought she would last week. I thought her odd and polarizing performance of “Help Me” and that arguably horrible version of “Creep” would put her in danger. But she didn’t even land in the bottom 3.  Still, I think her old fashioned stylings will bring her to mid-pack at best.

8. Reagan JamesTeam Blake Shelton – Reagan’s stock fell pretty far after Blake handed her the wrong song last week. Personally, I think she’s the best of the girls and would love to see her at least in the Top 6. This singer has a special and natural talent Blake! It’s as if she were born to sing. Don’t blow it. Let her pick her own songs. She has demonstrated that she knows who she is as an artist.

7. Luke Wade – Team Pharrell Williams – Poor Luke messed up last week, coming in late after missing his song cue. He recovered, sort of. But the entire performance was pretty lackluster in any case.  The pity votes were good for last week. But at this point, he’s really got to step up his game to beat the likes of Matt McAndrew and Chris Jamison.

6. Anita AntoinetteTeam Gwen Stefani – So far so good with reggae singer, Anita Antoinette. Even bad song choices won’t sink her, because she has such an engaging stage presence. She reminds me a little of her mentor. Hm.  She could be the last girl standing if Reagan and Blake don’t get it together.

5. Taylor John Williams –  Team Gwen Stefani – I really did not care for Taylor’s take on the cheesy Bread song “If.”  But this young singer has amassed a pretty strong fanbase that will see him through even rough weeks. Gwen should allow Taylor to choose his own songs, or at least give him more say. When he arranged “Stuck in The Middle with You” into something Gwen didn’t expect, that should have been a cue for her to step back.

4. Chris JamisonTeam Adam Levine – If Chris and Adam keep picking great songs, with great arrangements, they could go deep into this competition.  Chris has the potential to do well, because not only does he sing beautifully with amazing control–he can rock both old and new school R&B. Ultimately, he has the potential to be a contemporary rhythmic pop artist, which is why I would love for him to win.  Maybe The Voice could finally produce a marketable pop star.

3. Craig Wayne Boyd –  Team Blake Shelton –  Craig is a pro. A great singer in a southern rock tradition. A charismatic performer. Plus he’s easy on the eyes.  It’s no wonder that he’s a fan favorite at this point. Unfortunately, I’m afraid, he’d disappear off the face of the earth the minute he won. His retro stylings aren’t very marketable.

2. Damien – Team Adam Levine – This churchy soul singer has a knack for big emotional ballads.  He’s a crowd pleaser, for sure. I would not be surprised if he made the finals. It would be interesting to see him tackle an upbeat number. Maybe try some Bruno Mars or Usher. But why change things up when he’s doing just fine as is.

1. Matt McAndrewTeam Adam Levine – Matt has been KILLING it in the finals with quirky performances that are vivid and emotional. His song picks run the gamut from the classic, (“God Only Knows”) to the familiar (“Yellow”) to indie (“Take me To Church”).  His songs are kicking  ASS on iTunes. The downside is, since Matt is a bit of an odd duck, a few bad song choices in a row could send him out the door (See: Matthew Schuler).
