Tuesday Morning Mediabase 02/22/2022

Three milestones this week where we slip a day.

So You Think You Can Dance’s Tate McRae is back in the top 40 on Pop. Tate came in third on the show back on 2017 and went on to further successes in dance and built a successful youtube channel featuring dance videos. Her musical career started when she leveraged her existing audience and started adding videos featuring her music. She eventually got a contract and had radio success in the past. Her current single is “she’s all I wanna be”.

Another Canadian who used social media to gain an audience was Lauren Spencer-Smith. She already had a following when she joined American Idol (at home edition in 2020). Her debut radio single is “Fingers Crossed” and it has been hitting milestones every week for the past 4. This week, it went top 15 on Pop.

Just over a year after getting banned from Country radio, Morgan Wallen is back on top of it. For a while, Morgan was a pariah for the Country world – he was banned from airplay, not eligible for awards and not invited to anything. Evidence had surfaced of him being awful on Feb 2nd, 2021 and the Country world rejected him. But, his album just kept selling and selling because he was racking up those streaming numbers, so Country slowly opened back up for him. This week, his “Sand in My Boots” is number one in the format. Morgan’s album rises to 3rd on the BB200 this week (fourth last week) with 42K in sales (up 3%).

For audition watchers, Idol’s Benson Boone’s “Ghost Town” went top 30 on AC (and is top 15 on HAC and top 30 on Pop) while John K’s “A LOT” went top 30 on HAC.

Sorry for the delay – I just zoned out yesterday because it was Family Day (a made up day so that we can have a holiday between New Years Day and Easter because we need one in our frozen tundra land).
