Opening for Vince is a full circle moment for Wendy, as she previously sang backup for the singer. Now, she’s touring alongside him as a solo artist.

Vince introduced Wendy to the Grand Ole Opry, produced her album of country covers

In an interview with former American Idol mentor, Bobby Bones on his radio show, Wendy shared that VInce introduced her the first time she performed at the Opry. He also played alongside her. These days, Wendy is an Opry regular, but in the beginning she feared that country audiences wouldn’t accept her. Vince’s intro helped in that regard.

Additionally, Vince produced her 2020 album of classic country songs, titled I’ve Got You Covered. He also joined her on songs Ernest Tubb’s “Driving Nails in My Coffin.” and Linda Ronstadt’s “Faithless Love.” The nine track set  includes Wendy’s interpretations of classics like Bobby Gentry’s “Ode to Billy Joe,” Mel Tillis’ “I Ain’t Never,” George Jones’ “Walk Through the World with Me” and more.

When Wendy shared her idea for the project with Vince, he offered to produce it without a fee. Wendy said, “Great, because I can’t afford you.” Vince assembled the musicians and they recorded the record at his home studio. He also hand-picked the classic country songs Wendy covered on the day of the session. “Half of the songs I knew, and the other half I heard the day of the session,” Wendy shared with Bobby.

Wendy calls Vince, whom she met in 2016, “The Emperor.” She told Bobby, “He’s like a brother to me.”
