The Voice’s Melanie Martinez Unveils “K-12” Album and Feature Film

Melanie-Martinez K12 Release

The Voice alum Melanie Martinez releases K-12, the highly anticipated new album and accompanying full-length film via Atlantic Records.

K-12 is the follow-up to her RIAA platinum certified, 2015 debut album, Cry Baby. Produced by Michael Keenan with the exception of one song produced by Kinetics & One Love, the album serves as a soundtrack companion to a new musical film, written, directed, and starring Melanie.

K-12 had its official world premiere with events held earlier this week at Hollywood’s Arclight Cinerama Dome and New York City’s AMC Empire 25 in Times Square, with both premieres officially sold out within 24 hours of their announcement. Melanie arrived at both premieres in the distinctive pink school bus prominently featured in the film. Additionally, customized K-12 school busses will be traveling across the country selling exclusive merch in 15 cities from September 6th to September 16th sponsored by Hot Topic.

Additionally, K-12 was shown in cinemas as a one-night-only global event with over 425 screenings around the world. The movie screened in over 32 countries internationally, including the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Spain, Mexico, Brazil, New Zealand, Ireland, Argentina and Turkey to name but a few.

In the coming weeks, to bring fans even closer to the film, Melanie’s YouTube channel will feature new videos showcasing her creative process, behind-the-scenes stories and more.

“Melanie Martinez has put her life into K-12” said Julie Greenwald, COO of Atlantic Records, “that’s why we knew we needed to work with YouTube and YouTube Music to share this visual masterpiece with her global fanbase. The film and album, combined with much more content on her YouTube channel in the coming months, will be an ongoing invitation to the visually enticing K-12 world Melanie created.”

In support of K-12, Melanie will perform on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live, set for Monday, Sept 16. Additional media appearances include an in-depth interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe on Beats 1, airing Monday, Sept 9.

“The K-12 Tour” kicks off Oct 13 at Washington, D.C.’s All Things Go Fall Classic and then travels North America through late November; European dates follow, beginning Dec 2 at Dublin, Ireland’s Olympia Theatre and then continuing through mid-December. For tour schedule and tickets CLICK HERE.

The tour is presented in partnership with PLUS1, with $1 from every ticket sold going to support organizations bringing dignity, equity, and access to communities who need it. In the U.S., $1 per ticket sold will benefit The Trevor Project and their work providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services for LGBTQ youth.
