The Voice season 9 runner-up Emily Ann Roberts got engaged to long time boyfriend, Chris Sasser. The special moment happened on the country singer and Team Blake Shelton member’s 21st birthday. The couple have been dated since high school.
Emily Ann tells People magazine how it all went down. The two were on a hike in the North Carolina mountains, when the couple stopped by a gorgeous waterfall:
My boyfriend and I had plans to go on a hike in Asheville, North Carolina. I was barely wearing any mascara, I didn’t have my nails done and I was just wearing workout clothes, but we were just supposed to be going on a hike, you know?
As we were driving, [Sasser] was being extra sentimental. We were listening to the radio and Eric Church’s song ‘Like Jesus Does’ came on and he started crying a little bit and told me that the song reminded him of me. The whole thing got me wondering, but he had always said he wouldn’t ask me to marry him on my birthday or a holiday, so I didn’t know.
The crazy thing was once I said, ‘Yes,’ I took that ring right out of the box and put it on my finger. I didn’t realize I had done that till we got back to the car. We got back to my parents’ house because I thought we were all going to go to dinner, and all my friends and family were there for a surprise 21st birthday party. They were all surprised that we had quite the surprise for them too. I think it took everyone a minute to process it all.

Emily Ann released her Someday Dream EP back in July. On The Voice semi-final results in May she performed the set’s title track. The singer recently released a new music video for her song “Wild.” Check it out below.
