The Voice season 2 alum Chris Mann drops his new single “Noise,” the title track from his upcoming album. Chris plans to release individual singles from the album each month and includes a duet with soul singer India.Arie.
“I wrote ‘Noise’ because I had so many things I wanted to scream about–in the world, in politics, and in my personal and professional life,” Chris told Just Jared where the song premiered.
“It seemed like the sky was falling down a bit. I couldn’t bring myself to write a love song that day when there was so much else to make noise about. I love that we’re living in a new protest movement where people feel brave enough to speak up for what they believe in. I just want this song to be a beat to speak to,” said Chris. “I love the track–I produced it with Scott Simons and Willy Beaman. It’s part pep rally and part Beychella. I wanted the drop in the chorus to be randomly aggressive compared to the drive of the verse. It makes my ass shake and that was a basic litmus test. I can’t wait for people to hear this one.”
Chris raised funds for album production via the beleaguered crowdfunding website, PledgeMusic. Financial difficulties have kept the company from paying out monies due to the artists. Chris recently posted an update to fans:
PledgeMusic has found itself in a financial situation and has halted distribution of the funds they collected from the fans who supported artists using their platform. To be very clear: PledgeMusic has not distributed any money to me or anyone on my team that they have collected from you. Right now, the many artists who used PledgeMusic to raise funds for their projects are, like the fans who supported us, in limbo regarding the distribution of funds.
I will continue to advocate for you in my ongoing discussions with PledgeMusic to seek a resolution to this situation. In the meantime, everyone who donated to the campaign to fund “NOISE” will receive their digital copy of the album on release day. Even though I’m not being compensated, I feel like it’s the least I can do for my fans. In terms of the other pledge items, I will need to kindly ask for your patience as I work through this with PledgeMusic.
