The Voice UK Blind Auditions Week 7 Recap (VIDEO)

The Voice UK continues for a seventh and LAST week of Blind Auditions on Saturday (Feb 15) on ITV. Olly Murs, Will.i.am, and Sir Tom Jones are all back for another season in the big red chairs. Pop singer Meghan Trainor is the new kid on the block.

During the Blind Auditions, each coach will choose 10 acts before moving on to the Battle Rounds.  Heading into the final Blinds, Tom, Meghan and Olly have only one spot apiece. Will has two spots remaining. Again this week–look out for a bunch of no turn contestants.  Next week the Battle Rounds begin!

*Sorry for the recap delay. But it’s taking days for The Voice UK to upload videos to YouTube.

Jamie Deary – Leave a Light On by Tom Walker – 32 year old mom from Liverpool. Her dad toured with Oasis. There is even a song on one of their albums named after him. I like her voice. It’s strong and full of character. At the end of the line here, the coaches aren’t hitting their buttons. And, nope. No turns. She deserved a turn. If she had auditioned earlier in the season, she would have ended up on a team, for sure.

No turns

Shaun Samonini – In Case You Didn’t Know by Brett Young – 33 year old Gym owner from Essex. He’s married with a kid. Now the coaches are going crazy, and I don’t get it. He’s pitchy throughout the performance and sings in a thin upper register. yet Meghan, Tom and Olly turn for him. Shaun admits he is nervous. It showed. Tom thinks he has a beautiful voice. Eh. Shaun tells a teary story about wanting his son to understand the importance of following a dream. Meghan compares him to the Backstreet Boys (???). She acknowledges that his audition wasn’t perfect, but she loves his voice. All three acknowledge that they love his tone. Shaun chooses Tom.

Meghan, Tom and Olly turn, Shaun chooses Team Tom

Tom’s team is full!

Shauna Byrne – If I Can’t Have You by Shawn Mendes – 16 year old student from Dublin. She has a younger sister with special needs. It’s a good thing the coaches can’t see her wooden stage moves. She’s a singer with potential, but she’s not quite there yet. Will hits his button. He smiles when he sees her, probably because she is also pretty. Will likes her voice so much, that he wants to work with her. He understands that she’s just potential now. He’s probably the best pick for her–she’s “package” material. As a producer, Will could bring the best out of her. Meghan reveals that The Voice USA invited her to audition, but she was too afraid. Smart decision!

Only Will turns

Martina Mennell – That’s Life by Frank Sinatra – 32 year old from London – She grew up in Florence, Italy. A standards/Broadway type singer. She’s OK? Maybe the novelty will garner a button push. She hits a few big notes, but she’s got pitch problems. Aw, even the big note at the end doesn’t do it for her. Olly almost pushed, and then regrets holding back.

No Turns

Alex Buckley – Something by The Beatles – 23 year old from Lancashire. He works in a music shop. His 90 year old grandma is very supportive, and a Tom Jones stan. He sings an acoustic version of the Beatles classic. Oh maaan. PITCHY. He showed promise in his lower register, but his voice is not rangy. No turns, unsurprisingly.

No Turns

Evergreen (Trio) – Big Yellow Taxi by Joni Mitchell – 18-19 year olds from Donegal, Ireland – The trio are best friends. One strum of the guitar, and Will hits their button. He should have waited a bit longer. It turns out this trio is really amateur. Weirdly, Will turning seems to have unnerved them. It’s like Will just wanted to get his last spot over with. “You rocked that,” Will says. No they didn’t. Meghan and Olly note their pitch problems. Oh well. They’ll make great cannon fodder in the Battles.

Only Will turns

Team Will is full!

Musical interlude: Tom Jones sings “Knock on Wood.” IT’S SO GOOOOD.

Claudillea Holloway – Queen of the Night aria – 24 year old from Cambridgeshire, but she grew up in Malaysia. Also, she studied in America. She’s an opera singer. She has a beautiful voice, but the opera thing is a hard sell. The coaches will have no idea what to do with her. However, when the band suddenly drops a disco beat, both Meghan and Olly hit their buttons. Ha ha. Will wasted his last spot on that awful trio. Now he is bummed that he couldn’t turn. He vows to steal her. Meghan can imagine her singing a feature on one of her songs. Olly calls her brilliant and unique. Claudillea chooses Meghan. She definitely had the best pitch.

Olly and Meghan turn, Claudillea chooses Meghan

Meghan’s team is full.

Chris Beynon – Stuck on You by Lionel Richie – 22 year old plumbing and heating engineer. His mom passed away when he was 19. He’s never performed in front of big audiences. Here’s an obvious no turn. An odd song choice, Chris gives the tune a country twang. Interesting tone, but he’s got pitch issues. The audience wants Olly to turn. But he doesn’t. Tom thinks he should have turned.

No turns

Millie Bowell – Titanium by David Guetta and Sia – 23 year old florist from South London. Millie is Team Olly, obviously. Millie is the “last singer” Olly says. But that can’t be true. That would mean Olly has no choice but to hit his button. Or maybe this big voiced singer was saved for last purposely, allowing the Blinds to end in grand fashion. Olly, of course, hits his button. Tom and Meghan watch from the crowd.

Only Olly turns
