I wasn’t completely down with the judges’ picks tonight. Beverly’s singing lacks nuance. As we’ve learned on Idol LOUD does not necessarily mean GOOD. I preferred Justin’s soulful take. But that’s just me. I also preferred the duo Elenowen to Jared, but that was a strange pairing to begin with.
The Voice is still an entertaining way to spend an hour. We’ll see what happens when the live rounds begin in June.

Same as last week The coaches and their advisers will coach teams of contestants who will face off with each other in the “ring” The singer who impresses their coach will move. on.
Cee Lo is up first! Tje Austin and Nakia will face off! They will sing Ne-yo’s “Closer”. Nakia sang “Forget You” for his audition. Tje sang “Just the Way You Are”. Monica joins the group as adviser. They work out an arrangement of the song just for the duo. No soul by numbers! Says Cee lo. Sing what you feel.
They face off! Tje has a smoother sound, like Ne Yo. Nakia attacks the song with a growl. They’re both good. It comes down to which vocal style you prefer. Adam: So much hair flying around. You both were so fantastic. But I’d go with Nakia. Blake: You both held on to your personalities. You made it work together. Nakia. Christina: Nakia you really did sell it. Tje your whole “package” is nice (giggle) Monica thinks Tje voice is so melodic. She really likes him. Who goes home? We find out after the break!

Blake is next! Duo Elenowen and Jared Blake will face off! They will sing “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” by Marvin Gaye. Blake introduces his adviser, Reba McEntire. Reba tells Jerry to stay focused and keep eye contact with the audience. Elenowen need to sing with confidence. Jared’s got to face off against a married duo. That’s kind of weird. Blake tells the trio that they aren’t blending well.
The battle begins! This doesn’t seem like a fair fight, does it? This song was written as a duet, so it favors Elenowen. Jared’s deep baritone isn’t well served by this song. But he impresses the judges anyway. Christina: Jared you were selling it! Cee Lo: Jared you did a great job today. Adam: I loved that this was so wrong for you. You were both great. Reba: Josh and Nicole did a wonderful job. Jared was more confident. Who is the winner of the round? He picks Jared Blake!

Adam is next! Javier Colon will fact off against Angela Wolff – They sing “Stand by Me”. Javier sang “Time after Time” for his audition and got all 4 judges to turn around. Angela was originally rejected in the blind auditions, but finally got through singing “Rolling in the Deep”. Adam and his adviser, Adam Blackstone work with the duo in rehearsal. Adam tells Javier to scale it back. Angela doesn’t think it’s about hitting the notes, but coming in with a heart.
The battle begins! Poor Angela. She barely made it though to the battle round. She’s cannon fodder here. She’s doing her best, but he’s singing rings around her. It’s not even a contest. Blake: There’s a beautiful girl up on the stage but all I could do was say “Javier”. Christina: Javier you had the swagger you had everything. Cee Lo: You had some stiff competition there girl. Adam: The energy between the two of you was sweet to see. I want you both to feel good, but I got to go with Javier.

Christina is next! Beverly McClellan will face off against Justin Grennan, singing The Who’s “Baba O Riley” Beverly sang “Piece of My Heart” in her audition, Justin, “Drops of Jupiter”. Christina’s adviser, Sia joins her for rehearsal. Justin is completely unfamiliar with the song. But, when he sings it for the first time, he’s impressive. He’s going to give Beverly a run for her money. “I’ll be damned if the boys beat me!” says Christina.
The battle begins! Beverly is way to yelly. Justin’s got soul. I believe him when he sings. Cee Lo: Beverly, you stole, owned and sold it. Bev’s my girl. Adam: Justin, you really did an amazing job. Blake: Justin you came out of nowhere to me. You look like the guy who works at my bank. You have this rock inside of you. Christina: thank you for making my co-coaches jealous. Bev I’m lucky to have you on my team. Just I’m most proud of you. You’ve had the most growth.
