New The Voice coach Niall Horan chatted with Seth Meyers on the NBC Late Night (Feb 27) about his upcoming gig as a The Voice coach and more.

Niall’s attraction to serving as a coach on The Voice had much to do with his own music career start on The X Factor UK, which led to becoming a member of the superstar boy band One Direction.

New Coach Niall Horan Calls The Voice “Horrible”

“I’ve been on a show like that,” Niall explained. “I understand how it works.”

“They understand I’ve got empathy with them”

Although he is competing with another singing show alum the American Idol OG winner Kelly Clarkson, Niall revealed to Seth that he got half of his team because of his own reality show roots. “They understand I’ve got that empathy with them. I was that 16-year-old knowing that, that person there has got my future in their hands. That’s the hardest thing about The Voice, is I have to make end-game decisions over two singers that are standing in front of me knowing I have their future in my hands.”

Although it’s difficult to cut artists from his team, Niall is enjoying his time on the show.

“It’s been so fun — we were very lucky with the crew of coaches I’m with,” he said. “It could have been horrific, if you’re sitting there every night pretending that you like the person you’re sat next to. I got very lucky in Blake Shelton alone.”

Niall sits in between Kelly Clarkson and Blake, with Chance the Rapper sitting furthest left in the lineup of chairs.

“He’s going to be missed around that show”

“He’s stone cold, that man,” Niall said of Blake, “That’s all he does, anywhere, to everyone that will listen to him or don’t want to listen to him. He’s constantly nailing everyone. But he’s an absolute beauty, and he’s going to be missed around that show. He’s so good to work with.”

Then, at Seth’s request, Niall demonstrated his impression of Blake, switching from his Irish lilt to Blake’s down-home Oklahoma accent. “This is my last season on The Voice, and I would love if you would be on the last ever Team Blake,” he mimicked, comparing Blake’s style to that of a politician.

Also the clip features a preview of Niall pitching a contestant to join his team. The man is charming, to say the least.

Niall announces his third solo album, ‘The Show’

Niall will release The Show – his third solo album and first since 2020’s Heartbreak Weather –-on June 9. The announcement came on the heels of releasing his new single “Heaven,” his first new solo material in almost three years.

“This album is a piece of work I’m so proud of and now it’s time to pass it over to you to go and make it your own,” Niall shared in an Instagram post. “Thank you so much for being there for me all this time and I can’t wait to share the next couple of years of this new era with you.
